1999-41Resolution 99 -41 RESOLUTION TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND PROMOTE THE VALUE OF DIVERSITY WHEREAS, the people of Buffalo Grove choose this community, not just as a place to live or work, but as a way of life; and WHEREAS, Buffalo Grove has committed itself to equality not only because it is legal, but because it is right; not only because equality is ethical, but because it is desirable for us and for our children; and WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove is proud of its diversity and the respect its residents have for one another regardless of race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion or economic status; and WHEREAS, we as a community, can not afford to ignore the lessons of recent events throughout our region in which anti - Semitic, racist and hate - filled groups and individuals have attempted to spread seeds of prejudice and have engaged in violent acts against people of different races, religion and national origin; and WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon us as a community to speak out when events such as these unfold so that no one could construe silence as acquiescence or indifference; and WHEREAS, these recent events of hate and intolerance also challenge us to show others how to celebrate differences while at the same time developing consensus on a shared vision for the future; and WHEREAS, the people of Buffalo Grove will continue to embrace efforts to improve knowledge and education and to affirm all people as members of the human family; and WHEREAS, the people of Buffalo Grove will work to protect the rights, freedoms, and security of all, and to ensure that no one is jeopardized by racial, religious, or ethnic prejudice; and WHEREAS, the people of the Village of Buffalo Grove, regardless of the recent hate crimes shall not let such events divide us; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois, that on behalf of its residents and businesses, the Village of Buffalo Grove will not tolerate incidences of hate crimes and urge all people to take pride in the Village's diversity. Ours is a dynamic community that encourages the contributions of all citizens, regardless of race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, economic status, or any of the other distinguishing characteristics that all too often divide people in society.
