RESOLUTION TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND PROMOTE THE VALUE OF DIVERSITY
WHEREAS, the people of Buffalo Grove choose this community, not just as a place to live or work,
but as a way of life; and
WHEREAS, Buffalo Grove has committed itself to equality not only because it is legal, but because it
is right; not only because equality is ethical, but because it is desirable for us and for our children; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove is proud of its diversity and the respect its residents have
for one another regardless of race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion or economic
status; and
WHEREAS, we as a community, can not afford to ignore the lessons of recent events throughout
our region in which anti - Semitic, racist and hate - filled groups and individuals have attempted to spread
seeds of prejudice and have engaged in violent acts against people of different races, religion and national
origin; and
WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon us as a community to speak out when events such as these unfold
so that no one could construe silence as acquiescence or indifference; and
WHEREAS, these recent events of hate and intolerance also challenge us to show others how to
celebrate differences while at the same time developing consensus on a shared vision for the future; and
WHEREAS, the people of Buffalo Grove will continue to embrace efforts to improve knowledge and
education and to affirm all people as members of the human family; and
WHEREAS, the people of Buffalo Grove will work to protect the rights, freedoms, and security of all,
and to ensure that no one is jeopardized by racial, religious, or ethnic prejudice; and
WHEREAS, the people of the Village of Buffalo Grove, regardless of the recent hate crimes shall not
let such events divide us;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois, that on behalf of its residents and businesses, the Village
of Buffalo Grove will not tolerate incidences of hate crimes and urge all people to take pride in the Village's
