RESOLUTION NO. 98- 4
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION
OF THE NORTH CENTRAL SERVICE LINE
WHEREAS, Metra has embarked on a Major Investment Study (MIS), as called for in
the 1991 Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, the 1990 Clean Air Act
Amendments, and the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969; and,
WHEREAS, the expressed purpose of the Major Investment Study is to "evaluate the
effectiveness and cost effectiveness of alternative investments or strategies in
attaining local, State and national goals and objectives "; and,
WHEREAS, the North Central Line Mayoral Task Force represents the communities of
Antioch, Lake Villa, Round Lake Beach, Libertyville, Mundelein, Vernon Hills, Vernon
Township, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Des Plaines, Rosemont, Schiller
Park and Franklin Park, and has passed a resolution supporting Metra's preliminary
analysis concerning the need for a second track; and,
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove's commuter facility has emerged as the most
active station along the line; and,
WHEREAS, preliminary analysis has shown that the addition of a second track will
provide the best opportunity to maximize the benefits of full service and to meet the
future travel needs of the corridor; and,
WHEREAS, ridership and parking lot usage along the entire line is exceeding
projections and its rising demand necessitates expansion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Buffalo Grove supports the
expansion of the North Central Service Line to include installation of a second track
and respectfully requests that it be included in the reauthorization of the Intermodal
Surface Transportation Efficiency Act; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Illinois
Congressional Delegation, the Illinois General Assembly and Metra.
