RESOLUTION NO. 98 27
COMMENDING DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF RONALD GOZDECKI
FOR SERVICE TO THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, 1966 -1998
WHEREAS, Ronald Gozdecki began his career with the Buffalo Grove Police Department as a part -time
Police Officer on September 16,1966; and "1
WHEREAS, Ronald Gozdecki was sworn in as the Village's first full -time police officer on July 15,1968,
was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on June 1, 1973, and became the first commissioned Lieutenant in the
department and was assigned the rank of Commander of Field Operations on November 1,1978; and

WHEREAS, Commander Gozdecki was assigned to the rank of Deputy Chief on May 1,1981; and
,. WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ronald Gozdecki helped to initiate and participated in a number of local
SSprograms including: the Park Districts Safety Town, Swap -o-Cop Program, fingerprint programs for the Buffalo
Grove Jr. Women's Club, establishing the Buffalo Grove Police Department's Honor /Color Guard, and Chaplaincy
Program; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ronald Gozdecki was named as the Accreditation Manager for the Buffalo
' Grove Police Department in May of 1985 and was instrumental in the Police Department becoming the 48th law
enforcement agency nationally and the 5th in Illinois to become accredited; and
WHEREAS Deputy Chief Ronald Gozdecki has overseen the successful re- accreditation of the
Department in 1992 and 1997; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ronald Gozdecki has served as the President, Vice President, Secretary,
Treasurer and Sergeant of Arms of the Lake County Association of Chiefs of Police and has served as President
of the Buffalo Grove/Wheeling Kiwanis Club; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ronald Gozdecki has received numerous awards and recognitions including:
eight Commendations, two Honorable Mentions and several Citizen Letters of Recognition; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ronald Gozdecki has served the Department, Village, State and Community
with integrity, character, dedication, and professionalism for over 30 years.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo
Grove that our best wishes go to Ron in his retirement effective August 2, 1998.
