RESOLUTION NO. QS- ?6
Reaffirming the Need for Route 53 to Be Extended
WHEREAS, rapid population growth and business development have contributed to Lake
County's traffic congestion in recent years, and
WHEREAS, the transportation system in Lake County has not kept up with the rapid pace
of development in the area, and
WHEREAS, the Northeast Illinois Planning Council projects Lake County's population to
increase to over 800,000 by the year 2020, and
WHEREAS, a progressive, realistic approach to regional transit planning must recognize
that the proposed extension of Route 53 is an essential component of those plans, and
WHEREAS, a recent newspaper article mentions a petition of 4000 names submitted by
groups opposed to the extension of Route 53, and
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove, which represents over 40,000 people, has gone
on record repeatedly as a proponent of the extension of Route 53 as a sensible approach to a
transportation congestion problem that continues to negatively impact the quality of life for the
majority of Lake County residents
NOW THEREFORE, I, President Sidney H. Mathias, along with the Board of Trustees of
the Village of Buffalo Grove, do hereby resolve that the need for an extension of Route 53 is
essential to meet the transit needs of hundreds of thousands of Lake County residents now and into
the new millennium.
