RESOLUTION NO. 97- to

Whereas, approximately one million people were injured in alcohol related traffic
crashes in the U.S. in 1995, and
Whereas, 17,274 people died in alcohol related crashes in the U.S. in 1995,
accounting for 41 % of all motor vehicle crash deaths, and
Whereas, in the State of Illinois, 681 alcohol related highway deaths, accounting for
43% of all Illinois highway deaths, were recorded in 1995 under the current state
blood alcohol "per se" level of .10, and
Whereas, many states are now lowering the blood alcohol content level standard,
which defines impaired driving, from .10 to .08, and
Whereas, a .08 law will increase the arrest and conviction rates for impaired drivers
and will have the proven effect of deterring drunk driving, and
Whereas, such legislation, in the form of Senate Bill 08, has been introduced to the
Illinois State legislature by the Secretary of State George H. Ryan, has passed the
Senate, and is soon to be considered by the Illinois House of Representatives,
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Village President and Board of Trustees of the
Village of Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois that the Village of Buffalo
Grove does hereby support Senate Bill 08 and on behalf of the citizens of Buffalo
Grove encourages its full passage.
Be it further resolved that the Village Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
transmit this resolution to the appropriate representatives of the Illinois legislature.
