Corridor Planning Council of Central Lake County
Recommended Standards for the Principle on
UTILITY LINES
Member jurisdictions are asked to adopt the following standards by resolution:
Recommended Standard #1: Member jurisdictions, major project developers and utility
companies should initiate diseussiens communication regarding potential utility conflicts
at the earliest possible stage of project planning. New highway construction is particularly
significant due to the potential requirements for utility relocations.
Recommended Standard #2: Any new or relocated utility lines* in new subdivisions sail•
should be placed underground or below grade wherever possible, and where if feasible
under franchise agreements. Member communities should will not bear any cost of
relocation and underground placement of lines resulting from the new expressway.
* Not including Transmission Lines, which are defined as follows: conductors which transfer
electricity from power stations to substations or from an area with a power surplus to one that
is energy poor. Member governments recognize that the level of voltage of the lines
determines the feasbility of underground placement.
