REAFFIRMING THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE'S
SUPPORT FOR COMMUTER SERVICE ON THE
WISCONSIN CENTRAL RAIL LINE
WHEREAS, commuter rail service on the Wisconsin Central Railroad has
been a long time goal of the Village of Buffalo Grove, with a station site
consistently reserved on all Comprehensive Plans since 1981; and,
WHEREAS, for the purposes of reduced traffic congestion, improved
road safety and the reduction of auto emissions mandated by the Clean Air
Act Amendments of 1990, the importance of alternative transit networks
is evermore warranted; and,
WHEREAS, over the years, actions of the Village demonstrating the
Corporate Authorities' commitment to commuter rail service includes, among
others, the establishment of a Pace Park and Ride facility as a prelude to
the Busch Road site's development as a commuter rail station; the security of
an initial approval from Commonwealth Edison for their property to be used
for additional rail station parking; and the completion of preliminary site
engineering in 1991; and,
WHEREAS, the Northwest Municipal Conference Transportation Unit has
recently dedicated its 1993 planning and coordinating activities toward the
attainment of Wisconsin Central commuter service and has convened a
Wisconsin Central Task Force of Mayors to focus the project's lobbying
efforts;
NOW, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, ILLINOIS to reaffirm the
Village's support of commuter service on the Wisconsin Central Rail Line;
and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Village endorses the direction of
the Northwest Municipal Conference Transportation Unit's strategic plan's
work element as regards the Wisconsin Central, as well as encourages
residents, the business community, area legislators and Metra to dedicate
their energies for achieving this important project.
