A Resolution Endorsing The Concept Of Commuter Rail Service On The
Wisconsin Central Line And Community Involvement In Project Funding And
Development
WHEREAS, as a result of the positive efforts o f Metra, NORTRAN,
the Northwest Municipal Conference and the communities along the
proposed Wisconsin Central commuter route, a study was commissioned by
Metra showing costs and ridership potential for the proposed service; and
WHEREAS, because of these efforts and results the communities along
the line, NORTRAN, the Northwest Municipal Conference and Metra wish to
study the potential for funding the project through all possible sources
to include local community contributions, Illinois Department of
Transportation - Operation Green Light funds, and Metra capital or
operating monies; and
WHEREAS, the potential for benefits to the residents and community
of the Village of Buffalo Grove is excellent; and
WHEREAS, the implementation of commuter rail service will have a
significant effect on traffic mitigation in the Wisconsin Central corridor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE PRESIDENT
AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK
AND LAKE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, that:
1. The Village of Buffalo Grove supports the concept of commuter
rail service on the Wisconsin Central Line with a station in
Buffalo Grove.
2. In addition to the land acquisition and commuter bus facility,
which Buffalo Grove has already participated in, the Village
will consider funding an appropriate share of the costs of
implementing commuter rail service, including parking, facility
design and station construction.
3. In addition to the Illinois Department of Transportation Operation
Green Light funds already applied for by the Village of Buffalo
Grove for improvements supporting the commuter bus and rail
site at Commerce Court and Busch Parkway, the Village will
cooperate with other communities or a third party facilitator in
applying for additional Operation Green Light funds to support
the implementation of commuter rail service.
4. In addition to the site planning already accomplished by the
Village for a commuter bus facility, the Village will participate
in a design process concerning site planning and station
development to support the implementation of commuter rail
service.
