RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A BICYCLE PATH SYSTEM AD -HOC COMMITTEE
IN BUFFALO GROVE
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove has more than 45 miles of bike paths and trails within
the corporate limits; and
WHEREAS, the Village desires to enhance and promote the bicycle path system for use by
residents, businesses, pedestrians and bicyclists as an amenity and an element in the Village's
transportation system; and
WHEREAS, the Village has determined that a coordinated effort of Village staff, elected
officials, residents, businesses, and other governmental partners is the appropriate framework to
assess the current bike path system and create a plan for enhancing and. promoting this important
element of the Village's recreation and transportation system.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village
of Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois, that the Buffalo Grove Bike Path Ad -hoc
Committee is hereby established. The Committee shall be subject to Chapter 2.03 of the Buffalo
Grove Municipal Code, except for Section 2.03.060, Residency for Appointed Commissions and
Committees.
The Committee shall be composed of a minimum of seven (7) individuals. The Chair shall be
appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Village Board. The Chair shall
be a resident of the Village or employed within the Village.
The Committee shall provide a report to the President and Board of Trustees within six (6)
months of the Committee's first meeting concerning accomplishments of the initial work program.
The initial work program shall include:
A. Preparation of a mission statement.
B. Review of bicycle and walking trail programs in other communities, and recommendations
concerning the initiation of similar programs in Buffalo Grove.
C. Recommendations concerning means and methods to promote the Village's bike and
walking paths and trails as an amenity and transportation resource for Buffalo Grove
residents and businesses.
D. Assessment of the resources necessary to draft a comprehensive plan for the Village
bicycle and pedestrian system.
This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
