RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE INSTALLATION AND OPERATION OF RED LIGHT
CAMERAS BY COOK COUNTY IN THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE
WHEREAS the Village of Buffalo Grove is a home rule municipality and has the
powers granted to it under Article VII, Section 6 of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, the Village President and Board of Trustees find that the County of Cook
has adopted an ordinance or ordinances purporting to implement an automated red light traffic
enforcement program within the corporate limits of the Village of Buffalo Grove, and
WHEREAS, the Village President and Board of Trustees find that the County of Cook
has recently amended said ordinances and added a provision to section 82 -101 of the Cook
County Code which provides that, "Upon passage by resolution, a municipality may opt out of
participation in the County's automated red light traffic safety system for any vehicle traffic
intersection within its incorporated boundaries" or words to that effect; and
WHEREAS the President and Board of Trustees have determined that the installation or
operation of red light cameras by Cook County within the corporate limits of the Village of
Buffalo Grove is not in the best interest of the Village of Buffalo Grove or its residents;
WHEREAS the Village of Buffalo Grove desires to opt -out of the Cook County red light
traffic safety system for all intersections within its incorporated boundaries.
WHEREAS the Village of Buffalo Grove hereby opts -out of the Cook County red light
traffic safety system for all intersections within its incorporated boundaries
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD
OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE
COUNTIES, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That the Village of Buffalo Grove hereby opts -out of the Cook
County automated red light traffic safety system for any vehicle traffic intersection within the
corporate limits of the Village of Buffalo Grove.
SECTION TWO: That the installation of an automated traffic law enforcement
system by the County of Cook or any governmental body other than the Village within the
corporate limits of the Village of Buffalo Grove is hereby prohibited.

SECTION THREE: That the Village Clerk be and is hereby directed to file and
transmit a copy of this Resolution to the President and Board of Commissioners of Cook County.
SECTION FOUR: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect after passage and
approval.
