2002-190 Resolution 2002- 19 A RESOLUTION ADDRESSING CHILD LABOR LAW AND SUPPORTING MINORS 12 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER TO BE EMPLOYED BY A PARK DISTRICT OR OTHER RECREATIONAL ORGANIZATION. WHEREAS, House Bill 6283 and Senate Bill 241.7 amend the Child Labor Law and exempt the employment of a minor who is 12 or more years of age and who is employed in a recreational or educational activity by a park district or a not - for - profit youth club from the restrictions of the Act; and WHEREAS, both bills seek to allow a minor who is 12 (instead) of 14 years of age to be employed by a park district, municipal parks and recreation department, or a not - for - profit youth club for a specified amount of hours while school is in session; WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove supports the portion of these bills that allow minors 12 years of age and older to be employed by a park district or recreational organization provided that they have parental or guardian consent; and WHEREAS, if approved, the bills provide the park district or recreational organization the opportunity to educate and enhance the minor's athletic understanding of the sport or activity; and WHEREAS, if approved, the bills provide the park district or recreational organization the opportunity to employ minors and continue to offer a great selection of sports activities; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois, that on behalf of its residents, the Village of Buffalo Grove urges the Illinois General Assembly, the Illinois Department of Labor and the Illinois Association of Park Districts to work together to review House Bill 6283 and Senate Bill 2417 and allow minors 12 years and older to be employed by park district or other recreational departments. The Village of Buffalo Grove urges for the authorization of parents or guardians to allow their minors 12 years and older to be employed by park district or other recreational departments.
