RESOLUTION NO. 2000- 51

A RESOLUTION URGING ALL RESIDENTS TO FOLLOW THE PROSTATE
AND BREAST CANCER SCREENING GUIDELINES, INCLUDING
EXAMINATION BY A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER.
WHEREAS, October 2000, is declared National Breast Cancer Awareness
Month; and,
WHEREAS, this year, an estimated 175,000 new invasive cases of breast cancer
are expected to occur among women in the United States and approximately 180,000 men
in the United States will learn that they have prostate cancer; and,
WHEREAS, Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among
American women and prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non -skin cancer in
American males; and,
WHEREAS, Research suggests that following recommended screening guidelines
is the best way to detect both breast and prostate cancer in their earliest and most treatable
stage and could reduce the risk of both breast and prostate cancer mortality.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND
BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK
AND LAKE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS THAT:
All residents are urged to follow the breast and prostate cancer screening guidelines
recommended for their age group.
