RESOLUTION TO PROMOTE THE ARTS IN BUFFALO GROVE AND ESTABLISH
THE BUFFALO GROVE ARTS COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove deems it in the public interest to encourage the
artistic expression and involvement of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, there are within the Village of Buffalo Grove numerous artists, those that
appreciate art, and private artistic and cultural organizations, each pursuing their own interests;
and
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove deems it in the public interest that there be a
coordination of the efforts of these individuals, organizations and institutions and greater public
support of their purposes and objectives;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the
Village of Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois, that there is hereby established the
Buffalo Grove Arts Commission. The Commission shall be subject to Chapter 2.03 of the
Buffalo Grove Municipal Code, except for Section 2.03.060, Residency for Appointed
Commissions and Committees.
The Commission shall be composed of a minimum of five individuals; the Chair shall be
appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Village Board. The Chair
shall be a resident of the Village or employed within the Village.
The Commission shall be in operation for one year, at which time the President and
Board of Trustees shall review the mission and objectives of the Commission and make a
recommendation to establish the Buffalo Grove Arts Commission by Ordinance. The goals of
the Commission shall include:
A. The Commission shall prepare a mission statement and a comprehensive plan of
artistic and cultural activities.
B. Prepare an inventory of existing cultural and fine arts opportunities within the
Buffalo Grove community.
C. Review the cultural and fine arts opportunities in other communities and
recommend if any non - existent programs should be initiated in Buffalo Grove and
how they should be undertaken.
D. Pursue means and methods to encourage and foster cultural and fine arts
opportunities in Buffalo Grove and its organizations for the cultural enrichment of
Buffalo Grove.
E. Review the feasibility of sponsoring or co- sponsoring all types of exhibitions, shows,
productions, displays and facilities pertaining to the visual and performing arts and
related cultural activities.
This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
