The Village Clerk, Rosalie Kaszubowski, is nowlocat-
ed at the Municipal Service Center (Fieldhouse) with the
Vehicle Stickers same hours as previously. The Building Commissioner
also now has an office there with hours as usual.
For Volunteers
Chief Arlie Page presented the monthly police report.
at the Nov. 5th. meeting of the Buffalo Grove Board of
Trustees. When asked how he felt the Police Dept. has
progressed since he took over, he said that while there is
always room for improvement in any Dept., the volun-
teers deserved much praise. Page cited the 1660 hrs.
put in by the approximately 18 men in October and the in-
creased respect of the village for the Dept.
He noted that often police officers must take time off
from their regular place of employment to appear in Court
and that frequently cases are continued as many as 6
or 7 times before being heard by the Judge. Buffalo
Grove had 45 cases before the Court in Oct., and about
90% pleaded guilty or were found guilty and resulted in
fines. Page mentioned that the Dept. is often called on
to assist other Police Depts. in the area. The growing
need for round the clock protection, especially when the
shopping center opens, was also brought out by the Ch-
ief.
Trustee Marsh made a motion for the Village to give
all Volunteer Police and Fire Dept. help their 1965 Ve-
hicle Stickers free of charge in recognition of their ser-
vice to the community. The motion was approved amid
a series of tongue -in -check suggestions concerning the
other groups who might also receive free stickers rang-
ing from the Trustees as suggested by Racette to the
whole Village as suggested by Frank.
There will be a meeting of the Board on Thursday, Nov.
12th. for the purpose of opening bids for the curbing of
the parking lot in Emmerich Pk. The curbing would help
to make an ice-skating pond that would be more usable
than last years..
Village Attorney Richard Raysa stated that he has been
in contact with the States Attorney's office in regard to
G. Fred Porter and that they do not intend to prosecute
Porter, a former Municipal Justice of Buffalo Grove.
Trustee Racette said that he felt the people of the vil-
lage should be made aware of Porter's sloppy job while
in office and also of the fact that he is "freeloading"
by continuing to draw $100 a month for the term of of- '
fice ending in April in 1965. Since Porter refused to re-
sign he still receives his salary even though he was re- '
moved from office.
A request by Trustee Rueckel for $400 to purchase
trees to replace those damaged by storms, was tabled
by the Board til spring due to the fact that some of the
Trustees feel that it is too late in the year to plant.
Ordinances will be amended to allow a change in price
for truck vehicle stickers and also for Building Permits.
All trucks under 5500 lbs. empty weight will now receive
stickers for 7.50 and those over 5500 lbs. empty weight
will pay $15.00. All trucks previously paid $15.00. Build-
ing Permits for all new buildings except garages, addi-
tions and outbuildings will be raised 25% to $125.00 to
help defray rising costs of running the Building Dept.
Gene Huxhold urged the village to support the Fire
Dept. by attending their annual Dance on Nov. 14th. Hux-
hold also mentioned the necessity for Buffalo Grove to
work toward our own Dept. since there. is the possibility
of Wheeling dis-annexing from the Fire District at some
future time due to expansion and while they would not leave
us without protection we should have our own Fire Dept.
He stated that as of now, training -wise our men could
take over and become a working Dept., but we haven't
equipment.
