AMENDING THE PERSONNEL RULES OF THE
VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE
WIIEREAS, on June 18, 1984, the Board of Trustees of the Vill-age of Buffalo
Grove adopted personnel rules by passlng Resolutlon 84-43; and,
WEEREAS, Sectlon 23.02 ot the Personnel Rules provldes for their amend-
nent by a najoxlty vote of the Corporate Authoritlesl and,
IIITEREAS, on September 23, 1985, the Board of Trustees passed ResoJ.utLon
85-50, anendlng the Personnel Rules to brlng then lnto coupllance wlth the
Falr Labor Standards Act of 1938 as anendedl and,
WHEREAS, the Presldent of the Unlted States has signed S. 1570 into law
whlch sets a new date for compliance wlth the FLSA of Apr1l 15, 1986; and,
WHEREIS, the addltlonal cost of compliance can now be deferred to that
date by relnstltutlng the V1l1agers prevlous overtlme pollcles:
NOI.I, Tf,EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTf,ES
OF TEE VILIAGE OI' BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAXE COI]NTIES, ILLINOIS AS trOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.That Section 8.12 of Chapter 8.00 of the Buffalo Grove
Personnel Rules 1s hereby amended to read as follows:
8. l2 Overtine
A. Eligibility. A11 re gular employees sha1l be e11gible for overtioe
conpensatlon. Compensation for overtine may be ln the forn of preur-
lun pay or compensatory t i.xoe off. The Village Manager sha1l desig-
nate the form of overtime coEpensation avallable to each class of
work in the nunicipal servlce.
B. overtime Hours. Ilours worked in excess of a standard work dayor
shift, or hours worked on scheduled days off shall be compensated
as overtime. Compensation sha1l not be provided, however, for
overtime amounts of less than thirty (30) ninutes,
Scheduling. Overtine shall be offered fairly to all enployees.
Overtlne scheduling in all departments must i:e approved in wrlting
by the Village tlanager prior to overtlme vork, except in case of
enerSency.

D.Premlum Pay. Employees in classes eligible for premiuro pay shall
be cornpensated at the rate of one and one-half (ll) tiBes the
equlvalenl hourly rate of the enployee for overtlme hours worked.
Hours worked on a holiday observed by the Village shal1 be cou-
pensated at the rate of two (2) tines the equlvalent hourly rate
of the enployee for hours worked, except as otherwise provided by
Sectlon 11.02 of these rules. A department head may, subject to
approval of the Village tlanager, compensate enployees eligible
for premlum pay by the award of compensatory time off on an hour
per hour basi.s.
E. Coupensatory Time. Employees in classes eligible for compensatory
time for overtiBe hours worked shal1 be ah,arded conpensatory time
off on an hour per hour basls. Accrual of compensatory tine is
pernj.tted, but there sha1l be no compensation paid for compensatory
tlEe earned but not taken. Use of compensatory time must be approved
by the department head or Village Manager, Use of conpensatory
tlne shal1 not be approved 1f absence frou work will cause inpair-
ment to the perforrnance of the department or Village.
SECTION 2.That Section 10.01 of Chapter 10.00 of Ehe Buffalo Grove

Regular worklng hours for full-tine enployees shall be forty (40) hours in any
five consecutive eight (8) hour days, except as noted below:
The work lreek for fire personnel asslgned to shift duty sha1l be
an average of fifty-slx (56) hours annually.
The work week for police personnel asslgned to shift duty shall be
an average of forty (40) hours annually.
The work week for clerical and secretarial
thirty-seven and one-half (37|) hours.
