WIiEREAS, on June f8, 1984, the Board of Trustees of the Vlllage of
Buffalo Grove adopted personnel rules by passing Resolutlon 84-43; and,
WHEREAS, Sectlotr 23.02 of. the Personnel Rules provides for thelr arend-
nent by a naJorlty vote of the Corporate Authorltles; and,
WHEREAS, certaln aEendments to the Personnel Rules are requlred to brlng
the Rules into compliance l,lth the Falr Labor Standards Act of 1938 as amendeds

8. 12 - Overtlue

8.12 of Chapter 8.00 of the Buffalo Grove Person-
read as folLows:
A.Ellgibillty. AIl regular employees shall be eligible for
overtine compensation. Compensation for overtime may be
in the foru of preniuur pay or coEpensatory tine off. The
Village Manager shall designate the forn of overtime com-
pensation available to each class of work in the municipal
servlce.
B. overtime Hours. Overtime hours sha1l be conputed and paid
ln lncrenents of one quarter of an hour. overtime amounts
of seven (7) mlnutes or less in a flfteen (15) minute perlod
shall not be compensable. Overtlme amounts of eight (8)
mlnutes or more in a fifteen (15) mlnute period shall be
counted and paid as fifteen (15) nlnutes of overtlme.
Scheduling. Overtime sha1l be offered fairly to all employees.
OvertiEe scheduling in all departnents oust be approved
1n rdritinS by the Village Manager prior to overtime work,
except in case of emergency.
Premium Pay. Employees in classes eligible for prenium

pay shall be compensated at the rate of one and one-half
(l]) tines the equivalent hourly raEe of the employee for
overtime hours worked. Hours worked on a holiday observed
by the Vlllage shal1 be comPensated at the rate of two (2)
tlltres the equlvalent hourly rate of the eEployee for hours
r4rorked, except as otherrrlse provided by Sectlon 11.02 of
these ru1es.

E. Conpensatory TiEe. Eu ployees in classes eligible for com-
pensatory tlne for overtlme hours worked sha11 be awarded
compensatory time off on an hour per hour basis. Accrual of
conpensatory tiDe is permitted, but there shaIl be no com-
pensation paid for coEpensatory time earned but not taken.
Use of compensatory time must be approved by the departreflt
head or Village Manager. Use of coupensatory tlme shall
not be approved if absence fron work r"rill cause lxnpairment
to the performance of the department or Village.
SECTIoN 2. That Section 10.01 of Chapter 10.00 of the Buffalo Grove
Personnel Rules is hereby arnended to read as follows:
I0.0I - Hours of Work
Regular worklng hours for full-tlme enployees shall be forty (40) hours
in seven consecutive days frou Monday through the Sunday followlng,
except as noted below:
Regular working hours for clerical and secretarial employees
shal1 be thlrty-seven and one-half (371) hours in seven con-
secutive days from Monday through the Sunday following.
Regular working hours for fire protection personnel covered
by the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as amended, shall
be one-hundred twenty-one (l2l) hours in a sixteen (16)
day work period, effective April I5, 1985.
Regular working hours for law enforcement personnel covered
by the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as anended, shall
be one-hundred seventy-one (17I) hours 1n a trdenty-eight
(28) day work period, effective April I5, 1985.
