SI'?PORTING EFFORTS TO URGE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A
UNIFORM MINIMUM DRINKING AGE OF 21 YEARS
WHEREAS, statlstl.cs demonstraEe that there are 251000 deaths annually
on the natlonrs hlghways as a resuLt of accideots caused by drunken drlversl
and ,
WHEREAS, teenagers represent 25 percent of that amount although they
constLtute less than 8 percent of the total n.mber of licensed drlversl and,
WIIEREAS, studies have shovm that lf the remal.ning st.ates were to adopt
21 as thelr mlnlmum drinklng age there would be 730 fewer young people killed
annually on United States Highways; and,
WI{EREAS, the Presidential comnlsslon on Drunk Driving has issued a report
in favor of establishlng 21 years as the minimum drinklng age; and,
WHEREAS, the United States llouse of Represeotatives has already shown
support for programs which encourage states to rai.se their drlnking age to
21, lncluding the introduction of ll.R. 3870 and H.R. 244L.
NOW, TIIERETORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIIE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VII,LAGE OT BUI'I'ALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COT]NTIES, ILLINOIS THAT 3
SECTIoN 1, The President and Board of Trustees support efforts to
urge ralslng the minimun drinklng age to 21 years ln states r,rrlth
Lower mlninr:m drinklng ages.
SECTIoN 2. The Vlllage Clerk is hereby authorlzed and dlrecred to
transmit a certlfied copy of this Resolutlon to Unlted States Sena-
tors Alan Dixon and Charles percy, and Unlted States Congressmen John
Porter and Phi1lp Crane.
