A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED McDONALD'S
RESTAURANT IN TERRAMERE PLAZA IN THE VILLAGE OF
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (south of the intersection of
Lake-Cook Road and Arlington Heights Road)
WHEREAS, Terramere Plaza is located directly adjacent to a residential
neighborhood in the Village of Buffalo Grove, and
WHEREAS, a McDonald's restaurant has been proposed at the southern
frontage of this plaza directly across the street from said residential neighbor-
hood, and
WHEREAS, the entrance onto Arlington Heights Road north of the restaurant
site allows full access to Arlington Heights Road directly into a left turn bay to
Whitehall Drive and no left turn buy is provided for turning movements into the
restaurant site which could result in significant traffic problems, and
WHEREAS, the proposed restaurant is located near James Fennimore Cooper
Junior High School and therefore will encourage children to cross Arlington Heights
Road in an area with no traffic control devices, and
WHEREAS, the prevailing winds in this region are from the southwest and
northwest which will carry odors from the restaurant into the adjacent residential
neighborhood, and
WHEREAS, automobile headlights from vehicles using the drive-in lane may
shine into the homes of adjacent residences in both Buffalo Grove and Arlington
Heights, and
WHEREAS, the traffic generation anticipated by the McDonald's Corporation
on Arlington Heights Road may not be realized after the extension of Route 53
(FAP 432) to Lake-Cook Road:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 . The Village of Arlington Heights should deny the special
use request for a McDonald's restaurant on the proposed site due to
its incompatibility with the surrounding residential neighborhood and
traffic congestion which would ultimately result on Arlington Heights Road.
