ENCOURAGING THE REMOVAL OF SNOW AND ICE FROM
AREAS OF PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC
WHEREAS, the Village of Buffalo Grove experiences substantial accum-
ulations of snow and ice on sidewalks; and
WHEREAS, such accumulations of snow and ice result in conditions haz-
ardous to pedestrians traversing sidewalks, or impede pedestrian traffic totally,
requiring pedestrians to walk in the streets and thereby exposing themselves to
vehicular traffic; and
WHEREAS, all residents of the Village should have freedom of movement
along all Village sidewalk routes without fear for their personal safety; and
WHEREAS, the Village deems it to be in the best interest of its citizens
to have snow or ice removed from areas of pedestrian traffic:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS as follows:
1. Every owner, lessee, tenant, occupant or other person having charge
of any building or lot of ground in the Village abutting upon any public
way or public place be encouraged to remove the snow and ice from the side-
walk in front of said building or lot of ground.
2. In case of snow and ice on the sidewalk shall be frozen so hard
that they cannot be removed without injury to the pavement, the person
having charge of any building or lot of ground is encouraged to cause the
sidewalk abutting on the premises, to be strewn with ashes, sand, sawdust or
some similar suitable material, and as soon thereafter as the weather shall
permit, thoroughly clean the sidewalk.
3. The snow or ice which falls or accumulates during the day should be
removed as soon as practicable, with particular emphasis on those sidewalks
used for travel to and from school by children.
