Committee and Liaison Reports
Commissioner Pinzur reported the following as part of his NORTRAN report:
1) Joseph DiJohn will be leaving NORTRAN shortly to become Manager of Bus
Operations at RTA. Commissioner Pinzur suggested sending a letter of
congratulations to him on his recent appointment.
2) Transit Union Local 1028 and NORTRAN have reached agreement on a new
contract.
3) An excellent article on NORTRAN was recently published in Mass Transit
Magazine. He urged that the Commission read through it.
4) NORTRAN Council, Harvey Schwartz, reported at the last meeting that
Motor Fuel Tax funds could he utilized to pay NORTRAN DUES.
5) Libertyville which. attempted last year to withdraw from NORTRAN, recently
appointed a new trustee to the NORTRAN Board and has paid its dues for
FY82.
6) NORTRAN has agreed to prepare and print the transportation directory for
the Commission. A. rough draft was distributed for the Commission to
review for its next meeting.
7) NORTRAN will soon begin serving the new courthouse in Skokie.
8) Arlington Heights has not yet joined NORTRAN and Commissioner Pinzur
suggested setting up an informal meeting with them to discuss the
membership question. Trustee Marienthal suggested that it might be
more appropriate for trustees from the two Villages to discuss the
matter, and. volunteered to contact the trustees in Arlington Heights to
determine whether there is ground support for their joining NORTRAN.
For those unable to attend the Buffalo Grove Days parade, Chairman Ahrenholz
quickly recapped it. He noted that the bus was a success and that it was
estimated that over 750 people utilized the shuttle service. The Commission
thanked Trustee Marienthal for suggesting the shuttle bus idea.
Regarding the correspondence from NORTRAN relating to proposed bus Route 235
and the northward extension of Route 234, Mr. Luisada noted that in his opinion •
the latest NORTRAN .propo sal did not represent the optimum routing for the two
routes in question. He suggested that routing Route 235 to the Cumberland
Station in Des Plaines had certain problems, etc. The trip to the Cumberland
Station is longer than to the station in Mt. Propsect which also has better,
more frequent rail service. Mr. Luisada suggested on .alternative whereby Route
235 would travel east on Dundee Road as far as the schedule would permit, while
Route 234 would deviate northward to serve the Highlands, Northwood, Ridgewood,
subdivisions.
