RESOLUTION NO. 81 - 37
A RESOLUTION URGING FEDERAL AND STATE LAWMAKERS
TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF HANDGUNS AND HANDGUN
AMMUNITION
WHEREAS, the sales and use of handguns in the United States continues
to increase at an alarming rate; and
WHEREAS, handguns have been shown to play a major role in the commission
of homicide, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and accidential injury and
death; and
WHEREAS, the easy and convenient availability of handguns and handgun
ammunition increase the potential of handgun related deaths and injuries; and
WHEREAS, existing Federal , State, and Local regulations have either not
been effective or enforced to the fullest extent of the law to reduce the
use of handguns in the commission of crimes against all citizens; and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo
Grove believe that it is necessary and desirable to protect the residents
of Buffalo Grove and all of our neighbors from loss of property, death, and
injury by controlling the availability of handguns and handgun ammunition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, COOK AND LAKE COUNTIES, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1 . That the Congress of the United States and Illinois State
Legislature immediately consider and enact effective legislation to regulate
handguns and handgun ammunition.
SECTION 2. That our neighboring municipalities be encouraged to consider
and enact similar resolutions or ordinances regulating handguns and handgun
ammunition.
SECTION 3. That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to forward a
certified copy of this Resolution to the Federal and State Representatives of
the Village of Buffalo Grove and the municipalities of the Northwest Municipal
Conference encouraging them to take whatever action is necessary and support
legislation to regulate handguns and handgun ammunition.
