WHEREAS, School District 59 located in portions of Elk Grove
Township has petitioned the Cook County Superintendent
of Schools for the formation of a Unit School District
which would include Forest View and Elk Grove High
Schools of the Northwest Suburban High School District
214 and the elementary schools of School District 59;
and
WHEREAS, The Unit District, if approved would include forty-two
percent of the tax base of School District 214 and twenty
six percent of the student enrollment, and
WHEREAS, The Cook County portion of the Village of Buffalo Grove
is also serviced by the Northwest Suburban High School
District and any decision to create a Unit District would
also affect this portion of the Village through either in-
creasing school taxes or reducing the educational oppor-
tunities provided in the High Schools, and
WHEREAS, The Cook County Superintendent of Schools is presently
conducting hearings to discuss and act on this petition
to form a Unit District.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Presi-
dent and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo
Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois, that:
The Village of Buffalo Grove urges the Cook County
Superintendent of Schools to carefully review and study
the arguments of both parties regarding the proposed
fragmentation of the Suburban Township High School
District 214 and its impact on the quality of education
for all its students and to oppose the aforesaid Unit Dis-
trict formation.
