1975-04-28 - Resolution 1975-22 - Buffalo Grove is in opposition to the proposed Senate Bill 974 RESOLUTION NO. 75-22. WHEREAS, a large portion of the Village of Buffalo Grove's operating revenues are received from the Retailer's Occupation Use and Service Occupation taxes commonly referred to as sales taxes; and WHEREAS, in excess of 53 percent or $84,000 of last year's sales tax receipts were from the sale of food and drugs, and WHEREAS, the 79th General Assembly of the State of Illinois is proposing by Senate Bill 974 to remove that tax from food and drug sales and increase the Village permitted tax on other goods from 1 percent to 1 .2 percent ; and WHEREAS; after a careful review of the projected sales tax receipts, the Village would still realize a consid- erable loss of operating revenue, estimated to be $73,000 per year, and WHEREAS, this loss of revenue will severely affect the Village of Buffalo Grove's ability to maintain its govern- mental services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Buffalo Grove, Cook and Lake Counties, Illinois , that SECTION 1 This bill is unrealistic and does not effectively provide a good alternative source of revenue for the projected sales taxes lost by Buffalo Grove, and SECTION 2 If this bill is adopted, that this Village be authorized to increase its sales tax from 1 percent to 1 .6 percent. This increase would offset the revenues lost from this tax on foods and drugs in Buffalo Grove. SECTION 3 The Village Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to Governor Walker and to Senators Glass and Berning, and Representatives Porter, Duff, Katz, Reed, Pierce, and Duester.
