IV. OLD BUSINESS
A. Sunrise Assisted Living, 180 Half Day Road
Signs - Recommendation for Variations
Com. Cea recused himself from the discussion because his
company is involved in the engineering and site planning
for Sunrise Assisted Living.
Mr. John Green, Groundwork, Ltd. , 1051 Perimeter Drive,
Suite 1110, Schaumburg, IL 60173 (847-413-0300) made the
presentation. The signs were reviewed on January 8, 1998 .
A staff report had been prepared and comments were made
by the Appearance Commissioners.
A revised site plan and new drawings have been submitted
that include all clarifications that were requested by
staff, i.e. height, width, foundation elements, separa-
tion from existing signs, setbacks and copy modifications.
Variances are required for the number of signs, size and
placement with the required setback.
tour It
1. Monument Sign at the Southwest corner of the site.
Sign has been relocated and will be set back twenty-one
feet (21 ' ) from the property line. The setback will be
consistent with and will not obscure the Woodland Commons
ground sign. The Sunrise sign would require variance to
be located less than 250 feet from the Woodland Commons
sign. The shape of the frames of the monument sign and the
Woodland Commons sign will be the same, but the materials
will be different.
2 . Two Directional Signs - One sign will be located at
the east entrance on Route 22 and the other sign will be
located at the entrance on the west side of the property
off of Willow Parkway extended.
"SUNRISE" has been set into an oval shape to match the
monument sign and the identification sign.
The Sunrise sign is located below the Condell Acute Care
Center sign with arrows indicating that the direction to
Condell is straight ahead on both signs.
The Condell corporate colors are green with green copy and
the Sunrise corporate colors are white with green copy.
3. Identification Sign - Requires variation for the panel
that reads "With a Special Neighborhood of the Memory
Impaired" because it does not comply with the Sign Code
requiring copy to consist of Name and Nature only.
The identification sign will be installed directly in front
of the Porte Cochere.
Ch. Gordon commented that the composition of the Directional
Signs seems to be top heavy and suggested that Sunrise be on
top with the Condell sign below.
Mr. Green said they considered this but they do not want
to generate any confusion for people looking for Condell
who may be under stress.
The Landscape Plan was revised and indicates the exact
locations of all four (4). of the signs.
Mr. Green was informed that the location of the pole light
(D) is to be substituted for the first bollard (Z) west of
the entrance.
