B. Northwest Community Hospital Treatment Center
Parking Lot Lights - Lake Cook Road and Route 83
Presentation was made Mrs. Clarice Rech. Director of the Center.
Ms. Lynn Schultz, Manager of the Center; Mr. John Mix of Gurtz
Electric and Mr. John Turner from Northwest Community Hospital .
were also present.
Mrs. Rech said that since the original light fixtures were installed
in 1980 the light at the intersection has increased and there are
many trees in the area. They are requesting approval of new fixture
heads with an increase from 250 watts to 400 watts. The purpose of
the increased light is to ensure the safety of their patients who
arrive at all hours of the night and safety for their staff members
who also arrive during the night.
Mr. Mix said the proposed fixtures are identical in mechanical
appearance to the existing fixtures and only the heads are being
changed. The only change is the intensity of the light.
The existing bulbs are metal halide (white) and they are requesting
high pressure sodium (amber) because of the higher efficiency.
The lights at the medical building to the east are metal halide.
When the treatment center was constructed, high pressure sodium
lights were installed, but Mrs. Rech did not know when they were
changed to metal halide. The parking lots are separated but people
drive through from Weiland Road to the treatment center. The lights
are on timers and are left on ail night at both facilities.
Mr. Mix said the high pressure sodium lights have some advantages
for future improvements. They react better for security video
cameras. There is also some 8% - 10% difference in the output of
light, but the photometrics are the same.
After discussion, the Commissioners recommended that the light
.ources match and the representatives of the treatment center
agreed to install metal halide (white) lights.
Com. Trilling made a motion to approve the revised lighting
as submitted for the Northwest Community Hospital Treatment
Center. Illumination to be increased from 250 watt bulbs to
400 watt bulbs with the stipulation that the light source will
be metal halide to be consistent with the medical office building.
Com. Weissman seconded the motion.
Roll Call Vote: AYE - Viehman. Weissman, Trilling.
Lundine and Weissman.

V. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ch. Gordon referred to Mr. Hruby's letter regarding the Rose Glen
subdivision sign at Checker Road and Checker drive. He attended the
Village Board meeting on Monday. September 19. 1994 and the reason
for the residents' complaints is the size and height of the sign.
Photographs were distributed for review. The sign meets all the
requirements of the Sign Code. Nevertheless the Trustees have asked
the Appearance Commission to review the section that controls the
size, height and placement of temporary subdivision signs.
Ch. Gordon has observed the sign and agreed that it looks large and
seems to be atypical in placement. The development is located very
near to a residential area.
The Commissioners agreed that the sign is very nice looking and it
appears to be too high but it is not larger that other similar signs.
Mr. Schar informed the Commissioners that the Zoning Board of Appeals
would like to schedule a joint workshop to review the proposed Sign
Code revisions.
Tuesday, October 4, 1994 was agreed upon as a possible date. The
Commissioners will be informed of the time and place of the meeting.
V I. ADJOURNMENT
Motion to adjourn was made by Com. Weissman and seconded by
Com. Viehman.
Ch. Gordon adjourned the meeting at 9:20 P.M.
Respectfully submitted.
