Chipper' s Restuarant - Canopy Ms. Valerie Kaleta, Manager of Chipper' s Restuarant submitted a color chart with drawings of a vinyl canopy for the entrance of Chipper' s. The purpose of the canopy is to provide better identification for the restaurant and control the flow of water from the roof. Ms. Kaleta said the color chosen is #620 Terra Cotta, which will blend with the brick, with Cream or White letters outlined in Black. The canopy would be internally illuminated. After discussing the colors, the Commissioners recommended #609 Grass Green for the canopy with #611 Cream letters. The C and S will be 9" letters and HIPPER will be 7-1/2" letters. The posts of the structure will be galvanized metal. Ch. Larsen commented that the Green would illuminate well at night and would also be seen from Lake Cook Road during the day. He recommended changing the colors of the ground sign because green does not read well and also recommended using the message center to advertise Chipper' s. Regarding the control of the water from the overhang, Com. Weissman recommended the use of some kind of flashing between the standing seam roof and the canopy or dripping will still be a problem. Com. Lundine made a motion to recommend approval of the Chipper' s Restaurant Canopy as submitted. The color to he #609 Grass Green with #611 Cream letters, outlined in Black. Com. Weissman seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: AYE - Viehman, Weissman, Gordon, Trilling, Lundine and Larsen NAY - None Motion Passed - 6 to 0 . B. Pewter Showcase - 206 Mc Henry Road Wall Sign on the north elevation Recommendation for variance at Town Center Presentation was made by Mr. Philip Schramm, 308 Old Mc Henry Road, Long Grove, IL 60047 , owner of Pewter Showcase, and Mr. Herman Hefler, Speedy Sign-A-Rama. Mr. Schramm said they have outgrown their store in Long Grove and want to relocate to Town Center. Mr. Hefler described the sign they would like to install on the north elevation. It will be identical to the sign that is permitted on the east elevation. The letters will be #202 G/Red - 20" upper case and 10" lower case. The store frontage is 22 ' between the pillars and the length of the sign will be 14 ' 6" leaving approximately 3-1/2 ' at each end. The store (formerly Rogers & Holland) has double frontage but does not face two right-of-ways, so a variance is required for the sign on the north elevation. The Commissioners had no objections. Ch. Larsen commented that the strokes of letters P and R will arc because they are too thin to run neon tubing through. Mr. Hefler responded that he explained this to Mr. Schramm. He will be able to make the strokes at least 3-1/2" to 4" wide. It will change the company logo, but Mr. Schramm was agreeable. APPEARANCE COMMISSION August 27, 1992 - Page Two Com. Viehman made motion to recommend to the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Village Board that a variance be granted Pewter Showcase to permit installation of a wall sign on the north elevation as submitted.
