I . CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Larsen called the meeting to order at 7 : 40 P.M . on Thursday ,
September 12 , 1991 at the Village Hall , Raupp Boulevard .
II . ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present : D. Ehrhardt , A. Viehman and E. Larsen. QUORUM.
Commissioner C. Bruno arrived at 7 : 55 P.M.
Commissioners Absent : F . Weissman and R. Gordon
Building Dept . Liaison: James Kelly , Building Inspector
III . APPROVAL OF MINUTES
August 8 , 1991 - Com . Ehrhardt made a motion to approve as submitted .
Com. Viehman seconded the motion.
Roll Call Vote : AYE - Ehrhardt , Viehman and Larsen
NAY - None
Minutes of August 8 , 1991 were approved and will be placed on file.
IV. BUSINESS
Representatives of Item A and Item B were not present . They were
reviewed after Item C .
C. Arlington Toyota , Inc . - Revised Sign Program
Arlington Toyota . at 935 West Dundee Road , Buffalo Grove , IL 60089
394-5100 , was represented by Jerry Shaw . Sure Light Sign Company ,
1810 N. 32nd Street , Stone Park , IL 60165 ( 343-7446) .
Mr . Shaw described the site plan. Signs labeled E - 1 . E - 2 and
E - 5 through E - 11 are to be removed . New signs will be installed
at the following locations :
1 . Monument trademark sign on Old Arlington Heights Road
3 ' x 13 ' + 39 square feet . (Removed from E - 2 . )
2 . Sign 5 - A (replace E - 7) Parts/Service/Parking ->
3 . Sign 7 - B (replace E - 10) Sales/Leasing/Parking ->
4 . Sign 9 - C (replace Parts/Service/Body Shop ->
5 . Sign ii - D (replaces E-11 ) Body Shop Entrance ->
5 . Wall mounted sign will replace E - 6 (Body Shop)
6 . Pylon sign #1 will replace E - 1 (6 ' x 17 ' )
Ch. Larsen noted that the blue portion of the new signs is separated
from the actual sign faces by a non-illuminated red reveal , and the
square footage of the signs is calculated by the size of the upper
portion only.
Ch. Larsen said the directional signs do not require AC review , as
long they are under four (4) square feet . They are 3 ' x 1 ' = 3 sf .
They will need electrical permits .
Mr . Shaw said 4 ground signs plus 2 wall signs will be replaced .
The new ground signs are designated 5 - A. 7 - B, 9 - C and 11 - D.
The pylon sign, monument sign and wall sign were reviewed .
1 . Pylon Sign - 4 ' 2-1 /2" x 17 ' = 77 square feet ; 20 ft . in height
2 . Monument Sign - 3 ' . 3" x 12 ' = approximately 40 sq . ft . - OK.
3 . Wall Mounted , Single Face - Body Shop - 3 ' x 1 ' = 3 sq . ft .
Ch. Larsen commented this sign should be OK.
Mr . Shaw said the sign on the front elevation is not going to be
changed at this time .
Ch. Larsen informed Mr . Shaw that the pylon sign should be set
back 20 feet from the property line .
Mr . Shaw said he has not checked the setback of the existing
sign and there may not be enough room to set the pylon sign
back 20 feet .
Ch. Larsen asked if any of the Commissioners objected to the
installation of the new pylon sign on the existing footings?
Commissioners Ehrhardt , Bruno and Viehman agreed that the new
sign is nicer looking and is better because it will not say
"Used Cars . "
Com. Ehrhardt made a motion to recommend approval of the
Revised Sign Program for Arlington Toyota including the
Pylon Sign , the Monument Sign and the Wall Flush Directional
Sign as submitted.
Should a variance be required in order to place the Pylon Sign
on the existing base structure , the AC further recommends to
the Village Board of Trustees that a variance be granted .
Com. Viehman seconded the motion.

A. Revision of Highland Oaks Sign Criteria
Addition of Green Color - PMS -#347
Representative from Raybec Management , 7855 Gross Point Road ,
Skokie , IL 60077 (677-1000) was not present . Mr . Schar has been
informed that the color PMS #347 - Green is the corporate color of
Country Companies . Therefore , the sign that has been submitted can
be approved without the Sign Criteria being changed .
Ch. Larsen recalled the Appearance Commission had advised the
Highland Oaks representative not to limit the colors .
Com. Bruno made a motion to recommend approval of amending the
Sign Criteria of Highland Oaks Shopping Center to include the
PMS 347 color green.
Com. Ehrhardt seconded the motion.
Roll Call Vote : AYE - Ehrhardt , Bruno , Viehman and Larsen
NAY - None
Motion Passed - 4 to 0 .
B. Covington Corporate Center - Leasing Signs
Representative was not present . The letter from Bridget Templeton
of Hiffman Schaffer Anderson , 2604 East Dempster Street , Suite 306 ,
Des Plaines , IL 60016 (803-6440) , dated August 12 , 1991 requests
that the location of one leasing sign be changed and approval for
two additional signs . The signs are identical to the existing signs .
Com. Viehman made a motion to recommend approval of the request
by Hiffman Shaffer Anderson, Inc . to change the location of
one ( 1 ) leasing sign and to install two (2) additional signs
at the Covington Corporate Center , per site plan.
Com. Ehrhardt seconded the motion.
Roll Call Vote : AYE - Bruno , Ehrhardt . Viehman and Larsen
NAY - None
Motion Passed - 4 to 0 .
V. ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Mr . Marshall Atlas has informed Mr . Schar that an small awning has
been installed at Country Court Shopping Center . He has asked for
approval to install them at the whole shopping center .
Ch . Larsen said that awnings do not require a permit . Awnings would
change the character of the whole center , so the AC would have to have
drawings in order to recommend approval .

Com. Bruno made a motion to approve as submitted .

Motion Passed - 2 to 0 , 2 abstentions .
VI . ADJOURNMENT
