1991-02-14 - Appearance Commission - Minutes APPEARANCE COMMISSION VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, ILLINOIS THURSDAY , FEBRUARY 14 , 1991 I . CALL TO ORDER Chairman Eddie Larsen called the meeting to order at 7 : 45 P.M. on Thursday, February 14, 1991 at the Village Hall , 50 Raupp Boulevard. II . ROLL CALL Commissioners Present : R. Gordon, F. Weissman and E. Larsen. QUORUM Commissioners Absent : D. Ehrhardt , E. Bremner , C. Bruno and A. Viehman Bldg . Dept . Liaison: Charles Matt , Deputy Building Commissioner III . APPROVAL OF MINUTES January 10 , 1991 - Motion to approve as submitted was made by Com. Gordon and seconded by Com. Weissman. Roll Call Vote : AYE - Weissman, Gordon and Larsen NAY - None Motion Passed - 3 to 0. Minutes of January 10 , 1991 approved and will be placed on file . IV. BUSINESS A. Riverwalk - Marketing Sign Face Change Milwaukee Avenue and Lake Cook Road A variance for the existing marketing sign was adopted by Ordinance 89-85 on November 6 , 1989 with the condition that the permit was to be issued for a period of one ( 1 ) year , and renewal was subject to ZBA review and recommendation to the Zoning Administrator , per Sign Code , Section 14 . 32 . 010 A. When Mr . Timothy Beechick of Hamilton Partners appeared before the Zoning Board on January 15 , 1991 to request a one year extension, he submitted a copy change . The mural was to be removed and replaced with "RIVERWALK WELCOMES. . . ZENITH data systems on the top portion, with other tenant names below. Mr . Beechick requested that the names be changed every 2 to 3 months as new tenants move into the building. There were no objections . Com. Gordon made a motion to approve the face change of the Riverwalk temporary sign as requested , with the recommendation that the variance be extended. Com. Weissman seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote : AYE - Weissman, Gordon and Larsen NAY - None Motion Passed - 3 to 0 . B. Real Estate Ground Sign Old Checker Road and Buffalo Grove Road Mr . Ed Downing, Signs of Distinction, 149 S. Wheeling Road , Wheeling , IL 60090 (520-0787) made the presentation. The copy will be Red Helvetica Medium lettering on a White background with a Red border . The sign will be singled faced , mounted on 4" x 4" posts and will eight (8) feet high. The posts and back of the sign are to be painted White . Com. Weissman made a motion to recommend approval of the PRIME SITE sign as submitted by G. S. Building Corporation. Com. Gordon seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: AYE - Gordon, Weissman and Larsen NAY - None Motion Passed - 3 to 0. Mr . Matt informed Mr . Downing that a site plan should be submitted with the permit application showing the location to be set back ten feet ( 10' ) from each property line. C. Pasquinelli Development Sign Busch Parkway and Weiland Road Mr . Roger Lupa, Pasquinelli Development Group, P.O. Box 1639 , Homewood, IL 60430 (708) 957-3456 made the presentation. The double-faced sign will be located on the Southeast corner of the inter section at Busch and Weiland. The ends will be boxed and painted White to match the border . The posts will be Green or White . The site is open to various development possibilities . Com. Weissman made a motion to recommend approval of the Pasquinelli Development Sign as submitted. Com. Gordon seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: AYE - Gordon, Weissman and Larsen NAY - None Motion Passed - 3 to 0. APPEARANCE COMMISSION February 14 , 1991 - Page Two V. ANNOUNCEMENTS 1 . FOOTLOCKER at Town Center - The face of one letter 0 is damaged . 2. A request has been made by Singer Shoes to use the designated space for additional signage on the Town Center street furniture towers as it was approved by the Village Board. Marc Schwartz has indicated to Mr . Matt that these spaces will be rotated to give the stores some additional identification. The B-5 Zoning Ordinance is not subject to the Village Sign Code and Mr . Matt will determine if separate permits are to be required. 3 . Maintenance Garage West Property Com. Gordon reported that the size and scope of the proposed multi-family development has been discussed . The Village does not agree with the developer ' s proposed use for 1 , 300 sq. ft . townhome units with single car garages . Coma Gordon will be advised when another meeting is scheduled. VI . ADJOURNMENT Com. Weissman made a motion to adjourn. Ch. Larsen adjourned the meeting at 8 : 10 P.M.
