1983-06-23 - Appearance Commission - Minutes APPEARANCE COMMISSION `•/ VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, IL THURS. , JUNE 23, 1983 I. CALL TO ORDER In the absence of Chairman Don Hardt, Com. Ed Larsen called the meeting to order at 7:33 P.M. at the Village Hall , on Thursday, June 23, 1983. II. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: M. Cea, K. Krippes, C. Zusel and E. Larsen. QUORUM. Commissioners Absent: D. Hardt and B. Gibbs Building Dept. Liaison: Dominis J. Saviano, Jr. , Deputy Bldg. Commissioner Village Board Liaison: Gary Glove, Trustee III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES May 26, 1983 addition could not be approved because Commissioners present at that time are absent. June 9, 1983 - Com. Larsen asked that the color of Janies and Bev's Hallmark at Strathmore Square be changed from Plain Vanilla to WHITE. Com. Cea made a motion to approve the June 9, 1983 minutes as amended. Com. Krippes seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Aye - Krippes Cea Larsen Nay - None Minutes of June 9, 1983 stand approved and will be placed on file. IV. BUSINESS A. Knuth Property ( Ground Sign ) Route 83; East of Buffalo Grove Road Ms. Annemarie Scheffler of Lieberman Realtors presented the sign. Specifications: Size - 10' x 12' Colors - Light Beige and Dark Brown Section 14.32.020 - 6 mos. time limit with automatic renewal if the sign is in good repair. Ms. Scheffler stated that the former Koenig and Strey sign has been removed. There are no other signs near to the proposed location. The Commissioners had no questions. Com. Cea made a motion to approve the sign as submitted for the Knuth Property sign as presented by Lieberman Realtors to be 10 feet by 12 feet, to be located on Rt. 83 East of Buffalo Grove Road; Colors: Light Beige and Brown; under the provisions of Sec.14.32.020 with a 6 month time limit and renewal .by Motion continued: the Sign Code administrator if the sign is in good repair. Com. Krippes seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Aye - Krippes Cea Larsen Motion Passed 3 to 0. Nay - None Com. Zusel arrived at 7:40 P.M. B. Buffalo Grove General Car Care Addition to Shell Ground Sign - 55 W. Dundee Road Mr. Tom Moran of Shell Oil Co. presented the proposed sign face change. The section that now says "Car Wash" will be changed by reducing the size of "Car Wash" and adding "Auto Care with Logo" - Colors will be: Car Wash - Red background with Yellow letters Auto Care - Red background with White Letters The space for Car Wash is 3 feet high with 2 foot letters and the space for Auto Care is 2 feet with proportionate letters. The reader board will be the same. The. Commissioners had no questions. Com. Cea made the following motion: I move we accept the Change of Face for the Shell Oil Pylon sign at 55 W. Dundee Road as presented with the following specifications: 1 . Logo for Auto Care as shown: Red with White letters 2. Change is for the 5 foot portion and the Car Wash colors will be Red with Yellow 24" Helvetica letters. 3. Both faces will be plastic Com. Zusel seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Aye - Krippes Cea Zusel Larsen Nay - None Motion Passed 4 to 0. C. Hidden Lakes - Street Tree Planting - Phase II Mr. Saviano presented the Hidden Lake Phase II Street Tree Plan. He also stipulated that it is identical to Phase I and the motion should reflect that the Village Forester's recommendations will be met. Com. Larsen commented that Phase I looks good. Cea made the following motion: I move we approve the Landscape Plan for Hidden Lake Village Phase II as presented with the stipulations that all trees shown will be planted on the site and the developer will comply with the Village Forester's report. Com. Zusel seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Aye - Krippes Cea Zusel Larsen Motion Passed 4 to O. Nay - None D. Irving's For Red Hot Lovers The Grove - Wall Signs (Front and Side) Mr. David Stein and Mr. Irving Greenspahn presented the revised plans for signage at The Grove which have been approved by Ken Tucker and Associates. Signs will be Red - Script for Irving's in 24" letters; Red - For Red Hot Lovers to be 10" letters with hearts for "o's" on sign on the West wall with two lines; and Irving 's in 24" 'Red letters and For Red Hot Lovers to be 12" letters; also Red - One line on the South wall . The distender on the letter g in Irving's will be a little lower that the Sign Package specifies on the West wall . Com. Zusel made a motion to approve the two wall signs as presented by Irving's For Red Hot Lovers for the South and West walls at The Grove. Com. Cea seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Aye - Krippes Cea Zusel Larsen Nay - None Motion Passed - 4 to 0. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Commissioners discussed various sign problems that have been noticed: Sandpiper Apts has tacked on some changes. World Wide Liquors has not removed signage in the window as stipulated. Panasonic has painted one window blue and has too many signs covering windows. The Health Food store at Cambridge Commons has many signs in the windows. Mr. Saviano announced that the Podiatry Center will appeal the Appearance Commission's at the Village Board meeting on June 27, 1983. Com. Larsen will attend but he cannot defend the AC action.
