APPEARANCE COMMISSION

I . CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Richard Gordon called the Appearance Commission meeting to
order at 7 : 31 P.M. on Thursday. January 12 . 1995 at the Village
Hall . 50 Raunp Boulevard.

III . APPROVAL OF MINUTES
December 8 . 1994 - Motion to approve as submitted was made by
Com. Viehman and seconded by Com. Weissman.

Motion Passed - 6 to 0.
Minutes of December 8 . 1994 were approved .
IV. BUSINESS
A. 380 Half Day Road - Sears Paint and Hardware Retail Store
Modification of Store Front at Woodland Commons
Mr . Mark Patenaude . Director of Purchasing and Contracts for
The Zaie Companies . 100 Lexington Drive , Suite 100 . Buffalo
Grove . IL 60089 (537-1919) presented colored before and
after renderings of the elevations showing the proposed
modification.
Mr . Patenaude said- Sears has entered into a long term lease
with Woodland Commons and would like to open a Paint and
Hardware Retail Store in the combined spaces formerly leased
to Animal Instincts Pet Center at 380 Half Day Road and Ace
Hardware at 370 Half Day Road . Animal Instincts has been
reiocated within the shopping center .
The paint center would occupy the space at 380 Half Day
Road and Zaie is requesting approval to remove the existing
aluminum frame/glass storefront and enclose the area with
brick that matches the building . This will permit the front
-tsouth) wail to be fixtured. The existing door wiii be
relocated to the west end of the new Sears Paint store .

The east wall will be equipped with fire doors to comply with
fire code regulations and maintain the fire integrity of both
spaces . There will be no customer entrance or egress directly
into the paint section. The main doors will be the former
Ace Hardware entrance . They will maintain the normal 36"
hallway between the fixtures that wrap the corner for the
required line-of-sight entrance and egress to the west door
which will be used as an emergency exit .
Com. Viehman commented that the overall aesthetics may not
been improved but the change is better than having an empty
store.
Mr . Patenaude' s response was that the additional brick will
actually add symmetry to the building because of the bend in
the wall to the east . The Sears Hardware sign will replace
the Ace Hardware sign and will conform with the Woodland
Commons Tenant Sign Criteria (TSC) . The drivit will be
replaced where the Animal Instincts and Ace signs were
located.
Mr . Schar asked that the rendering be clarified because it
incorrectly indicates the brick portion on the east end .
Com. Weissman iriade a motion-to-- recommend approval of the
proposed modification of the front elevation of Woodiand
Commons at 380 Half Day Road as submitted.
Com. Viehman seconded the motion.

Motion Passed - 6 to 0 .
B. 800 W. Lake Cook Road - J. B. Winberie - Canopy with Sian
Mr . Schar explained that the dark green J .B. Winberie canopy
has been removed and a new canopy has been installed on the
existing structure . The new canopy requires Appearance
Commission review and approval before a permit can be issued .
The new fabric is -white with green ivy and it has identical
lettering. The lighting was not changed .
Com. Viehman made a motion to recommend approval of the
canopy change at J. B. Winberie . 800 W. Lake Cook Road .
as submitted .
Com. Cea seconded the motion.

V. ANNOUNCEMENTS
1 . Com. Viehman expressed appreciation for the follow-up
information that is sent relative to recommendations
made by the Appearance Commission for variances . The
other Commissioners affirmed this comment .
2 . Mr . Schar informed the Commissioners that the rooftop
screening has been installed at Computer Discount Warehouse.
VI . ADJOURNMENT
Motion to adjourn was made by Com. Weissman and seconded by
Com. Cea. Chairman Gordon adjourned the meeting at 7 : 48 P.M.
