CALL TO ORDER Chairman Richard Gordon called the Appearance Commis- mission meeting to order at 7 :40 P.M. on Thursday, September 28, 1995 in the Council Chambers of the Village Hall, 50 Raupp Boulevard. II . ROLL CALL Commissioners Present : A. Viehman, E. Smith, M. Cea, L. Dorfman, C. Masure and R. Gordon. OUORUM. Commissioners Absent : F. Weissman Bldg. Dept . Liaison: Richard Jensen, Building Inspector IV. OLD BUSINESS A. Metra Station - Commerce Court Temporary Construction Signs The Metra Station signs were Tabled on Sept . 14 , 1995 because some clarification on the colors and configur- ation of the two signs was requested. Signs were discussed at the end of the meeting. A letter from Jack Weyrauch, dated September 18, 1995, was reviewed. It summarizes the specific requirements regarding the grant of $181, 250 from Operation Green- light which include the trapazoid shaped temproary sign that will be attached to the 4 ' x 8 ' rectangular Village of Buffalo Grove construction sign. Com. Viehman made a motion to recommend approval of the temporary Village/Metra Station sign as submitted. Com. Cea seconded the motion. Miller Property - Temporary Sign Route 22 , East of Town and Country Homes Mr. Mark Weir, Project Manager for Jack & Harvey L. Miller Development, 100 Schelter Road, Lincolnshire, IL 60069 . The Miller Brothers are owners of the Quill Corporation and they also own of thirty (30) acres west of the Quill Corporation, south of Route 22, just east of where the Town and Country Homes are being construction. The property has been annexed to the Village of Buffalo Grove and has been zoned Industrial The purpose of the sign is to inform people that there is going to be a business park at that location. The 4 ' x 8 ' (32 sq. ft . ) V-shaped sign will be instal- led at the northwest corner of the property perpendi- cular to Route 22, to give motorists visibility from the east and west . It will be green with cream copy. Posts will be four feet (4 ' ) in height and Mr. Weir agreed to have the posts and the back of the sign painted green. The sign will not be illuminated. A name and management company will be selected and this sign will soon be replaced with a permanent ground sign. They hope to begin construction of the business park in the Spring of 1996 . Com. Dorfman made a motion to recommend approval of the temporary construction sign as submitted by the Jack & Harvey L. Miller Development Company as sub- mitted with the stipulation that the posts and back of the sign would be painted matching green. Com. Viehman seconded the motion. Country Court Shopping Center 125 - 165 W. Dundee Road Revised Front Elevation and New Ground Sign Ms . Ellen Rhodes, Dan Management Company, 10 E. 22nd Street, Suite 116, Lombard, IL 60148 (627-0606) and Richard Nyman, Richard D. Nyman & Associates, Archi- tect, 2520 Prince Crossing Road, West Chicago, IL 60185, (231-7500) were present . Country Court was sold this sping and Ms . Rhodes is the new property manager. They want to improve the appearance of the shopping center to attract new business by changing the facade and constructing a new ground sign. The center was about 40% occupied when they assumed management and they have some new tenants . Ms. Nyman described the proposed alerations . They plan to remove the existing band of wood cedar shingles and replace them with white drivit material with projecting teal drivit accents that match the awnings . The accents project approximately three inches (3" ) and have a three inch (3" ) top that will be slanted toward the building to prevent water streaks on the front . The basic structure will not be changed. There is a slope at the northeast corner to add visual appeal . It wraps around the corner and there are trapazoid shaped openings to prevent snow and leaf buildup and wind load. The wall signs are illuminated with eggcrate flores- cent lights under the existing overhang. Nothina above the sign area will be altered. Ms . Rhodes said some new tenants have requested better signs, so they may submit a new sign criteria at a later date that will permit iluminated signs . Dundee Road, as submitted. Com. Dorfman seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote : AYE - Viehman, Masure, Cea, Smith, Dorfman and Gordon NAY - None Motion Passed - 6 to 0 . The new ground sign was described by Paul Rzewuski, of Alex' s Sign & Lighting Inc. The dimensions and materials were not specific and the Commissioners wanted to see a color rendering. Mr. RCom. Dorman was advised to submit a new drawing Mr. Edward Schar for review. Com. Dorfman made a motion to Table the signs until October 12, 1995 . Com. Cea seconded the motion. Voice Vote : AYE Unanimously. C. LaSalle Bank - 1355 W. Dundee Road Sign Face Changes (Formerly LaSalle Talman Bank) Mr. George Woock, White Way Sign Company, 1317 Cly- bourn Avenue, Chicago, IL 60610 (312) 642-6580 made the presentation. The LaSalle Talman Bank has been changed to LaSalle Bank and the existing lettering on the wall signs will be relocated. The face panels of the ground sign will be replaced. If State approval is given, the initials FSB will not be necessary and they will be delected from the wall sign and canopy sign. This will reduce the size of these signs . FSB will remain on the ground sign. The sign on the canopy is non-illuminated and the metal band will be repaired. Com. Viehman made a motion to recommend approval of the LaSalle Bank sign face changes, as proposed, with the stipulation that if the FSB is not required on the wall signs, it will be deleted and these signs will be shortened.
