APPEARANCE COMMISSION
VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE, ILLINOIS
THURSDAY, JANUARY 14, 1999
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Richard Gordon called the Appearance Commission
meeting to order at 7:35 P.M. on Thursday, January 14, 1999
in the Council Chambers of the Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd.
II. BOLL CALL
Commissioners Present: L. Dorfman, E. Smith, C. Masure,
C. Johnson and R. Gordon QUORUM.
Commissioners Absent: F. Weissman and M. Cea
Bldg. Dept. Liaison: Richard Jensen, Building Inspector
Village Board Liaison: Jeffrey Braiman, Trustee
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
December 10, 1998: Com. Dorfman made a motion to approve.
Com. Smith seconded the motion. No additions or corrections.
Roll Call Vote: AYE - Masure, Dorfman, Smith, Gordon
NAY - None
ABSTAIN - Johnson
Motion Passed - 4 to 0, 1 abstention.
Minutes of December 10, 1998 were approved as submitted.
IV. BUSINESS
A. Tenerife Identification Signs on Route 22
Recommendation for Variance of Sign Code
Section 14.20.010 - Residential Districts
Mr. Brian Barczek, Graphic Manager, Design Group Signage
Corporation, 265 Old Higgins Road, Des Plaines, IL 60018
(847-390-0350) was present. Vanguard Management Corporation
requested a variance of the Sign Code that would permit the
installation of two (2) Tenerife identification signs on
Route 22. The signs will be sandblasted redwood signs.
The background of the sign will be natural stain. Colors
are rust with gold lettering and the logo will be rust,
turquoise, silver and gold. The border and 4" x 4" posts
will be rust. The base of the signs will be landscaped.

The signs require variance of Sign Code, Section 14 .20.010
pertaining to Residential Districts, for the following
reasons:
1. The signs would be located within the
required setback.
2. The signs exceed 5' in height:
They are 4 ' 6" installed on 30" posts
3. The signs exceed 32 square feet:
They are 8 ' x 4 ' 6" =
The Commissioners had no questions or objections to the
proposed variance.
Com. Johnson made the following motion:
I move we recommend to the Zoning Board of Appeals
and the Village Board of Trustees that the request
of Design Group Signage Corporation for variance
of Sign Code, Section 14 .20.010, pertaining to
Residential Districts, be granted that would permit
the installation of two (2) Tenerife identification
signs on Route 22, as presented and indicated on the
plat of survey, Exhibit A.
Com. Masure seconded the motion.
Roll Call Vote: AYE - Dorfman, Smith, Masure,
Johnson and Gordon
NAY - None
Motion Passed - 5 to 0.
Sign to be reviewed by the Zoning Board on January 19, 1999.
Trustee Braiman asked the Association to be notified that
the "No Parking" signs should not be located on the public
streets.

Wall Signs on Front and Side Elevations
Variation of Creekside Commons Sign Criteria
Petitioner requested Tabling the review until
January 28, 1999.
