I . CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Richard Gordon called the Appearance Commission
meeting to order at 7 :34 P.M. on Thursday, January 28, 1999
in the Council Chambers of the Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd.

III . APPROVAL OF MINUTES
January 14, 1999 - Com. Johnson made a motion to approve as
submitted. Com. Smith seconded the motion.
There were no corrections or additions.

NAY - None
ABSTAIN - Cea
Motion Passed - 4 to 0, 1 abstention
Minutes of January 14, 1999 were approved as submitted.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
A. White Hen Pantry - 1165 Weiland Road
Wall Signs on Front and Side Elevations
Variation of Creekside Commons Sign Criteria
Mr. Terry Doyle, Doyle Signs, 232 Interstate Road, POB 1068,
Addison, IL 60101 (630-543-9490) requested approval to
remove the existing individual internally illuminated
letters at White Hen Pantry, 1165 Weiland Road, that were
originally installed in 1987, and replace them with White
Hen Pantry' s current logo style letter graphic that is
illuminated with fluorescent tubing. The size of the
letters is the same as the existing letters, but they are
outlined with an opaque rust color cabinet surrounding each
word so that the size is increased about three inches (3" ) .
The Landlord has approved this revision.
The Sign Criteria for Creekside Commons specifies individual
illuminated letters so the new sign requires a variation to
the Sign Package, but not a variance of the Sign Code .
The Commissioners had no objections .
Com. Johnson made a motion to recommend approval of the
request to replace the existing White Hen Pantry signs on
the front and side elevations at 1165 Weiland Road, as
submitted.
Com. Smith seconded the motion.

V. NEW BUSINESS
Sam Ash MUSIC - Musical Instruments Sound Recording
Wall Sign on the Front Elevation at 1305 W. Dundee Road
Variation of Plaza Verde Sign Criteria
Mr. Tom Rice, Landmark Outdoor Advertising Company, Inc . ,
7424 Industrial Avenue, Chesterton, IN 46304 (219-782-9577)
requested approval of a sign at Plaza Verde that would
differ from the Sign Criteria in that it has two (2) lines
of copy instead of one (1) line. It meets the Sign Code
requirements with regard to the size and height of wall
signs. The Landlord has given his approval for the sign.
The store is at the former Osco Drug location.
The Commissioners had no objections.
Com. Cea made a motion to recommend approval of the sign
submitted for the Sam Ash Music store at Plaza Verde,
1305 W. Dundee Road, as submitted.
Com. Smith seconded the motion.

C. Walgreen' s - 15 N. Buffalo Grove Road
Temporary Sign on Lake Cook Road
Mr. Monty Filsinger, Dicon Corporation, contractors for
with Dial Corporation, requested approval of a temporary
construction sign announcing the opening of Walgreen' s
Pharmacy at the corner of Buffalo Grove Road and Lake Cook
Road. The sign is double-faced and would be up for approxi-
mately six (6) months. It will be 4 ' x 8 ' installed on 4"
painted wood posts.
The proposed sign has advertising copy that is not permitted
under Sign Code, Section 14 . 32 . 030 - Construction Signs .
The Commissioners agreed that the sign was acceptable if the
One Hour Photo, Low Prescription Prices, Drive-Thru Pharmacy,
Home, Health and Beauty Needs wording is removed. If the
developer wants to install the proposed sign it would
require a recommendation for variance of the Sign Code from
the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Mr. Filsinger agreed to have the words removed.
The Commissioners had no objection to the sign without the
advertising.
Com. Johnson made a motion to recommend approval of the
Walgreen' s - Coming Soon with The Pharmacy America Trusts
temporary construction sign without the advertising copy.
Com. Cea seconded the motion.
