1963-01-17 - Plan Commission - Minutes i `--/ Jan. 17, 1963 Vernon Twnsp. Area Plan Commission Meeting This Meeting was attended by Charles Wilhlem, member of the Plan Commission. The t“o principal reasons the meetings were in session were; 1. The discussion of proposed LakeCounty Area Planning and zoing map. 2. Discussion of proposed Jet Strip at Chic=Boland Airport. Mr. Schelter, the operator of Chi4goland, cited the bad press he had gotten in reguard to this jet strip and cited his reasons for advancing this inprove- merit. Among them were more of a tax base for Vernon Tv;nsp. This to be accom- plished by the addition of cont roled industry along the west fence of the Airport. There would be fewer and better aircraft. These planes would make less noise than planes with reciprocating engines. Mr. Schelter said that the planes that are bothering people are the light club aircraft that fly low over resident- tial areas and are more trouble than they are worth at the field. These new air- craft are the type that industrial concerns will use. The specific improvements are as follows adding 2000 ft. of runway, construction of hangers. Abandoning the runwa~jt that aims at the school and paving the main strip which would be 5300 ft. long in a '&S direction. The new strip will provide an approach that will go between the present and the proposed school. The Vernon Plan Comm ssion seemed to be in favor of these plans. The Lake County was then brought up and was criticized for ignoring the Vernon Twnsp. plan. Speci fic objections were too lenient zoning and vague definitions., deletions of riculture, lack of industrial sites and no reser- vation of a flood plain area. Their recommendations were that the Lake County plan should be sent back for review and include an OQ.R classification in the Vernon Twnsp. area. Comments; The airport matter was cut and dried since permission had been received from the C.A.B. and was published with no objections made known.
