CIVICS FORUM
The Village Clerk reviewed the purpose and goal of the Civics Forum and summarized what the students have
done to prepare for this meeting.
Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High Schools are represented this evening. The students were teamed up with
department heads and elected officials. They were presented with proposal requests from several different
departments. Each student department head presented their request before the student board, which were as
./ follows:
• Fire Department—Water Rescue Communications Unit—details of which are contained in the memo
from Chief Baker and Tyler Grace.
• Public Works/Engineering Department—Trinco Free-Standing Suction Sandblaster—details of which
are contained in the memo from Darren Monico.
• Finance/Community Development Department—Time-Lapse Outdoor Construction Camera—details of
which are contained in the memo from Nicole Woods and Chris Black.
• Police Department—Wall-Mounted Drinking Fountain with Bottle Filling Station and Wall-Mounted
TV—details of which are contained in the memo from Officer Cholewa.
• Human Resources—Onboarding Welcome—details of which are contained in the memo from Kathryn
Golbach.
The student board discussed each of the requests, and ultimately voted to purchase a Water Rescue
Communications Unit. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department maintains a Water Operations Team with a wide
range of capabilities which can be deployed to significant water rescue incidents throughout the Chicago
suburbs. To communicate with its underwater divers, the Team currently relies upon an aging communications
unit whose replacement parts are becoming difficult to acquire. This replacement unit,an MK-7 BuddyLine is
a compact,self-contained air intercom system specifically designed for Search&Rescue Teams to have a clear
underwater communication device that needs little set-up time.
The students were then presented with Certificates from the Village and thanked by the Board and the audience
for another outstanding program.
ADJOURNMENT
Moved by Weidenfeld, seconded by Johnson,to adjourn the meeting. Upon voice vote, the motion was
•/ unanimously declared carried. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
