2015-02-18 - Farmer's Market Committee - Minutes Farmers Market Meeting 2/18/15 In attendance: Paulette Greenberg Chuck Posniak Mike Terson Larry King Ed Muldoon Lea Pinshower Peggy Starczowski Not in attendance: Tess Baker, Fern Russell, Mickey Katz Meeting called to order at 7.05pm. 1) The Market by laws (already reviewed by the Village attorney) for the 2015 operating rules and regulations were reviewed by the committee. Suggestions are as follows: *Address of the market be added to section addressing location dates and hours of operations. All agreed. * Second contact be added paragraph 4 on pg.1. Ed suggested BG Farmers Market email be used for this contact and he will email Peggy the Market email address. * In paragraph addressing Prep, Display and Sale of products, Peggy will add that vendors who use flames must supply a fire extinguisher. *Larry brought up the need for vendors to have adequate weights for tents. It was agreed 15-20 lb. weights should be adequate. Peggy will look into this. *Paulette addressed the second paragraph under Enforcement of Rules. She suggested should continue to include "Vendors failing to comply with these rules will be unable to continue....". All agree. *Peggy thinks specific dates should be added in every year, but Ed and Chuck said they these dates are already on application so this should suffice. Peggy will ask about this. 2) The trustees will be voting on Monday 2/23 on the proposal to have beer and wine sales. A suggestion was made that on pg. 1, Application process, point C addressing liquor items for sale, should include a statement that there be a designated area where patrons can sample the wine and beer and they not be allowed to walk the grounds with samples. Chuck suggested that we designate an extra parking space for patrons who choose to sample wine/beer. Chuck said only one vendor selling alcohol is allowed at the market and sample must be limited to a 1 oz serving. There would be an approximate $15 charge weekly to the vendor selling wine/beer. Chuck said a vendor has not yet been identified but he is continuing to explore options. 3) The Home Grown Art Fair would be run by Lynn Schneider of the Arts Commission. We are looking at one day and Paulette is suggesting I st day of the market for this. Paulette suggested having the art fair from 9-3 pm and all agreed this would work best. If any committee members have knowledge of artists who may want to participate please let Paulette know. All agreed. Larry has a friend he will approach about his interest. 4) Paulette has indentified an interested new vendor who sells cakes and cookies and is willing to attend alternate weeks. This vendor has been at Palatine market. Chuck has identified 30 new potential vendors. 5) Paulette said we couldn't do car show on July 12 as Long Grove has one planned that day. She said car clubs would be contacted. We must award prizes based on customer votes and this would need to be cleared with the park district. Long Grove charges a $20 fee for participants but then donates fees to the Special Olympics. Paulette said a theme for the show would be picked i.e. muscle cars. 6) Mise: Ed said the BG Market Facebook page has more "likes" than the village site. He has been posting information from vendor Facebook pages and this has been a big hit. Peggy has resigned from the market. Ed showed the thank you letter we received from the Vernon Township for donations. Ed and Paulette are looking for American flags online and are looking for approximately 4-5 dozen. Next meeting was tentatively agreed upon for Monday March 16th 7pm downstairs in Village Hall. The meeting adjourned 7:45 pm.
