IV. Chair report (Judy Samuels)
a. Guest, Joanne Johnson to speak about 708 Board
• If passes, a 7-9 member board of experts in the fields of:
1. Mental Health
2. Developmental Disabilities
3. Substance Abuse
•Tax funds to go directly to services in our community
•Vernon Township
1. Someone from our group could potentially become a member of
that board!
• Campaign is now less than 90 days out, support is needed to help share
the social media (like the page on Facebook, etc.)

•We can share brochures and fliers at a table at Buddy Baseball during BG
Days
b. Thank you Marty for bringing up the concern that the EOC room was too small,
thank you to Evan for making the arrangements to get us to the Public Works
Space
•We will be at the Training Center at the Public Works building again next
month

V. Trustee(s) report (Andy Stein / David Weidenfeld)
a. A lot of work is being done on the NCH front; however, the deep dive review is
still in process -thank you for the continued patience as this process continues
b. Buffalo Grove Park District is looking into building an amphitheater at Mike Rylko
Community Park
•Will keep us informed on progress
VI. Staff Liaison report (Evan Michel)
a. Pedestrian signs at Mariano's -- in process
• Moved from engineering to code review process
b. Marketing for Fun & Food and Buddy Baseball, Evan will get everything
compiled, synthesized and sent over to the new communications director who will
do a combination of press releases, social media posts, etc.
c. Fliers and handouts - got a good quote for fliers, we have 500 of the three event
fliers for$100 - we do not have money in the current budget for the three large
brochures ($700)
VII. Sub-Committee report
BG DAYS
a. Fun & Food (Debbie Verson)
• Sandwiches - Jimmy Johns in Arlington Heights
1. 18 sandwich box 3-inch costs $38.99
2. Sandwiches to be individually wrapped and delivered that morning
3. 300 total sandwiches, get two dozen just veggie sandwiches, the
rest will be turkey, veggie
•Water is taken care of
• McDonalds changed ownership, Commissioner Verson is following up
tomorrow - if they call back tomorrow we can do the cookies for Buddy
Baseball
• Commissioner Verson and Staff Liaison Michel will handle the chips
• Commissioner Verson will buy lunch bags
• Commissioner Magati will get donuts donated and baklawa and falafel as
well
• Fun & Food, September 5th arrive at 9am
b. Fun & Food Registration (Lexi Robinson)
• Emailed out small flier and link to the registration form to the 2021 Fun &
Food email list and the 2021 Bowling with Buddies email list
•As of 6:15pm 8/17 —* we have 201 registrants (42 individuals with
disabilities, 159 family members)
c. Buddy Baseball (Dean Klassman)
• Saturday, September 3rd, arrive at 4pm, game starts at 5pm
• Rain date is September 4th at the same time
• Food is set, water is set
• Commissioner Robinson will donate ice and bring to the event
• Commissioners Shapiro and Zalay will bring coolers for the water to keep
in the dugouts for the players

• Commissioner Verson says the Park District has put in a work order for the
tables at the event
• Pizza serving:
1. Commissioners will pass out on paper plates
• Parking will be the same as last year, no parking on Aptakisic Road - it's a
safer/better idea to park near Lasalle and the cul-de-sac
1. The Police will have a person there
2. Parking lot is for people with handicap placards and drop-offs only
•We will use the signs from last year
•We will have a few people passing out shirts to buddies once they are
paired up, keep shirts in the dugouts
1. Commissioner Zalay and Commissioner B. Shapiro
• President Sussman will throw out an honorary first pitch
• Commissioner Verson and Staff Liaison Michel will work offline with the
sign company

• Commissioner A. Samuels and Staff Liaison Michel will determine a plan
for Commissioner A. Samuels to support via CERT or MobileComm

f. Continue discussion related to how our Commission can work with Planning and
Zoning to be able to review and provide some input related to handicapped
parking spots, etc. (Marty Sussman)
• From the June 2022 meeting: Prior to this - we need to revise and review
our Commission's mission, vision, and goals and determine if this is
something we want to include as our goals. If so, a procedure and liaison
for this role would need to be included.
IX. New Business
a. Bowling with Buddies
• Thursday, October 20, 2022
• Talking to Bowlero and Rotary
• Looking to top it off at 70 participants
• We want to up the cost of a donation for family members to eat from $5 to
$10
• No goody bags this year
• Looking to have little trophies for all participants
