Welcome & Call to Order at 7:04pm II. Roll Call a. Trustee(s) report (Andy Stein / David Weidenfeld) a. BG Parade Route through Checker Road VI. Staff Liaison report (Evan Michel) a. Update on NCH i. Qualifies as regular doctors, not an outpatient clinic so only needs to meet the 4% handicap parking (not 10%) ii. Village Engineer, Village Attorney, and others are putting together a pamphlet on information for us iii. Commissioner Sussman provided documentation that the facility applied through the state of Illinois to be an outpatient facility that also include physical therapy services and should qualify under the 10% iv. Trustee Weidenfeld informed the Commission that the Village Attorney has concluded and reviewed the request and determined the operating physical at 4% is accurate and the issue is not up for further debate by this Commission; Trustee Weidenfeld recommended for Commissioner Sussman to provide a written statement and submit it to the Village Manager along with the documentation asking what the process was and why it was determined that the 4% was sufficient and why the conclusions RICK KAHEN COMMISSION FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES June 22, 2022 were drawn VII. Sub-Committee report BG Days a. Buddy Baseball (Dean Klassman) i. The game will take place on September 3rd at 5pm ii. Commissioners to arrive at 4:00pm iii. Pizza to arrive at 6:15pm iv. Commissioner Klassman spoke with Erica at the Park District to confirm; as well as with Lou's to confirm the pizzas v. Goal is to have 35 players and 35-40 buddies vi. There are no shirts for Buddy Baseball; we will need to order more o Players will wear their uniforms o Shirts for volunteer buddies only a. Marty and Allie will pass out shirts o Order 50-60 shirts, Staff Liaison will look into pricing vii. Commissioner Verson will reach out to Adam about getting a microphone for the event b. Fun & Food (Debbie Verson) i. Plan for now is to have get a separate tent, on the pavement with accessible tables ii. Public Works will provide cling-on stickers to indicate that they are handicap accessible and designated iii. Commissioner Verson informed the Commission that the handicap accessible tables are old; the Village is looking into getting more accessible picnic tables that will also be available for future Village events o Funds would be taken from the 503Cfund or need to be raised o Commissioner Zalay objected to RKCRD Commission funds being used for this as residents who do not have disabilities do not need to pay or solicit fundraising for those types of tables in order to participate in Village events a. Multiple Commissioners agreed with this sentiment b. Trustee Weidenfeld agreed with the Commissioners objections to using RKCRD funds c. Staff Liaison Michel will follow up o For Fun & Food the Commission recommends 4-6 handicap accessible picnic tables 2 RICK KAHEN COMMISSION FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES June 22, 2022 a. We could also use tables and folding chairs (as was done in years passed in the food tent) iv. Lunches o Dorflers sandwiches individually wrapped at $3.25 per sandwich o Chips o Cookies (donated) o Kona Ice (donated) o Plan B if there is no budget for to-go lunches would be to pass out water and Kona Ice v. Staff Liaison Michel requested a phone call to follow-up on budget and numbers for BG Days weekend with Chair Samuels, Commissioner Verson, and Commissioner Klassman vi. Commissioner Zalay suggested a donation bucket for donations to the RKCRD vii. Our vision for future BG Days Fun & Food events is to go back to including food and entertainment viii. Commissioner Verson indicated that Erica would like to know for the website: o Link to registration a. Commissioner Robinson will work on creating the digital registration form o List of sponsors o Information on the schedule o A description of the event c. Other items not covered under the above subcommittees i. Solidifying in-kind donors o Staff Liaison Michel will provide the information / letter for donors ii. Request = lighting for the route of the courtesy shuttle along the path back towards the skate park iii. Chair Samuels asked Staff Liaison Michel to clarify the budgeting process and requests for RKCRD funds—what do we have? When do we need to submit what we need to the Village for approval for the following budget? o Staff Liaison Michel will follow up with Staff Liaison from BG Committee to determine more information VIII. Unfinished Business a. Buffalo Grove Resident environment concern — Dunkin Donuts on McHenry Rd (Avi Samuels) i. Commissioner Samuels will be addressing this outside of the RKCRD meetings on June 28th with Staff Liaison Michel and the Village Planner b. Business Decal (Window Cling-Ons) Marty Sussman /Allie Zalay /Avi Samuels i. Held a Zoom meeting to discuss the purpose ii. Idea to include two tiers— example: a gold tier iii. Working on defining the criteria and publicizing a marketing individual is hired by the Village c. Posters / Fliers (Marty Sussman) i. Publicity— press releases for our events to share what we are doing — how can we go about this? RICK KAHEN COMMISSION FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES June 22, 2022 o Additional options for publicity include— E-news, social media o Commissioner Zalay had an idea to share Commissioner Sussman's flier drafts to whoever runs the Village's social media to share about the events at BG Days ii. Commissioner Robinson will create the registration link and monitor the registrations, she will also create a URL and QR code to share with Commissioner Sussman for the event fliers d. Continue discussion related to how our Commission can work with Planning and Zoning to be able to review and provide some input related to handicapped parking spots, etc (Marty Sussman) i. Commissioner Sussman inquired about how to get the RKCRD involved in the process of overseeing ADA compliance, etc. ii. Trustee Weidenfeld informed the Commission to contact the Staff Member for Planning and Zoning to inquire more or to attend Planning and Zoning meetings to raise concerns or questions and review public facing plans / documents iii. Prior to this— we need to revise and review our Commission's mission, vision, and goals— if we determine this is something we want to include as ours goals, a procedure and liaison for this role would need to be included after this process. On hold e. Commission website update—Allie Zalay i. Nothing to do until the Village hires a Marketing individual ii. Interviews are being held soon! IX. New Business a. Offshoot from the New Commission quick reference page • Is there a need to revisit our mission and goals? • Commissioner Garfield provided a typed document with a draft of a revised mission statement and goals • Commissioners will read and review to discuss at the July meeting • Chair Samuels will email the draft to all Commissioners X.
