II. Items for Discussion
1. Selection of a New Chair
• Chair has to be appointed by President Sussman
• Will be appointed at the next meeting
2. BG Days Update
• Things are opening up more than we expected
• There will be some sort of BG Days this year! We don't know to what extent yet,
but there will be an event
• Fun & Food and Buddy Baseball may not be in the same form
• Not mentioned at the BG Days Committee meeting yet, but Debbie
attended the meeting
• Committee is waiting as long as they can to make decisions
• BG Days Committee is working through safety and logistics (smaller event than
in years past due to guidance)
• There will be options for our committee to do some work this year!
• Looking at food trucks and spreading out
• If we have ideas for Fun & Food or Buddy Baseball, please send them to Debbie
Verson so she can share them at the next BG Days Committee meeting
• People could wait in a socially distanced line to grab a sack lunch
• We could spray paint circles in the grass for where people can sit for
eating in a distanced manner
• What would the kids do if the carnival is not open?
• We could do Buddy Baseball the Thursday evening before to kick off the
weekend
• Could we do a drive in movie where we rent a screen and have everybody
stay in their cars?
■ Sound through the car radios, we would need to rent the movie
■ Adam Moody on the BG Days Committee handles sound for the
weekend
■ The Park District ran a similar event - it was expensive - could we
reach out for details?
• Could we do a drive up carnival with events where no one gets out of their
cars?
• If BG Days does not precede forward - will our other events move
forward?
■ Likely not, maybe just Buddy Baseball
• Could we have a DJ come and do a socially distanced dance party after
Buddy Baseball?
• Usually we have between 250-300 people who attend Fun & Food
3. Bowling with Buddies
• Rotary is interested again
• Maybe October 21 st
• We could have the entire Bowlero space
• Could be a Halloween theme
• Would need to be clear on distancing and capacity limits
4. Funds from the Buffalo Grove Community Foundation
• Dave is the Trustee Chairman
• We have several thousand dollars in the foundation account
• Money rolls over
• There is roughly $2,762 that was donated in Rick Kahen's memory designated
solely for the work of our commission in his honor
• Spend the money from the Village first (because this goes away at the end of
each year), then we can use funds from the 501 C3 (which stays until it is used)
• Could we do a yearly award for businesses in Rick's honor?
• Could we rename the Rick Kahen Buddy Baseball Game or Rick Kahen
Fun & Food Event?
• Could we look at getting a handicap accessible van for the Village that can
help residents who need transportation to medical appointments, etc.?
■ Could we partner with the Vernon Township to help raise money for
this?
■ We could reach out to Geri Miller Brown who does grant writing
■ Evan will reach out to see if we can help subsidize the support for
Lake County residents (as this is currently available in Cook
County) - see if we can help get this available for all of our
residents
■ We could ask for donations during our events
5. Evan will get us back on our regular meeting schedule and email the commission with
details
III. Good and Welfare
• David Morton - Thursday he is moving! (But he can stay on the commission yay!)
• Lexi Robinson - The Robinson's are expecting Baby #2 in August!
