IV. State ID Cards
• Debbie Gross and Marty Sussman met with Senator Morrison - who
seems to be on board
• Senator Morrison has since contacted Secretary of State who has
approved the okay to include this information as part of State ID Cards
(this will be the first in Illinois)
• September 7, 2018 - (event following Buffalo Grove Days at Village
Hall so we can market it during Fun & Food)
I. Secretary of State will come to the Counsel Chambers to sign
people up and issue cards for families
• Debbie and Marty put together a flier with additional information
• Card is optional - a disability code could be a potential way for families
who are uncomfortable putting a medical diagnosis on the card
I. Card purpose is to help First Responders know right away what
to do in an emergency situation
• Need to clarify:
I. Can you get a driver's license, a state ID, and a disability ID?
• Need to determine:
I. If we say Communication Assist on the State ID is that
enough? Do we need more specific information for First
Responders without having to call or look into multiple
databases to find the information
o Need to discuss with First Responders to determine what
would be most beneficial to them (what will the
implications be for training? - Marty has been in contact
with the Buffalo Grove Chief of Police)
o Who from the Secretary of State will actually do the
writing of the information on the cards?
o This can be for any disability and a y age - but the focus
of this new initiative is for those who need communication
support and assistance
II. Marketing/Publicity ideas
o How will we help inform other villages and townships of
that this program
o The Village will help draft a
o Draft a blurb about the event for the Village to post on
Social Media (Facebook and Twitter)
III. Logistics for September 7 event
o What information do individuals need to bring with them?
(Doctors notes proving the disability? HIPPA waiver?
o Is there a way to register online?
o What exactly will individuals get that day?
• Idea for Fun & Food:
I. Have a table with fliers that give information about the ID
cards at Fun & Food and collect people's information to remind
them of the event on September 7, 2018 (Secretary of State is
not available to come out and issue cards during Memorial Day
Weekend)
