2018-05-23 - Commission for Residents with Disabilities - Minutes with rNsa hititiea Minutes from meeting of May 23, 2018 Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM • Commissioners Present: Rick Kahen,Jack Shapiro, Judy Samuels, Marty Sussman, Beth Shapiro, Lexi Robinson, Debbie Verson, Leo Njongmeta • Commissioners Absent: Mark Weiner, Larry Sweica, David Morton, Donna Garfield, Dean Klassman, Geri Miller Brown, • Also present Trustee liaisons Les Ottenheimer and Dave Weidenfeld, Staff Liaison Brian Sheehan Secretary needed to take minutes: Lexi Robinson volunteered Introduction of new staff liaison Brian Sheehan Reviewed commissioner contact information Reviewed commission brochure Budget Discussion • $700 a year budget, +additional grants, this year spent $500 ($447 on Bowling with Buddies and candy for senior expo) • We have leftover money in our budget • We can use money in the budget for candy for the parade at BG days • All money/purchases must go through Brian (staff liaison) before being made - DO NOT go out and purpose on your own or it will be considered a donation to the village • *Go through approval process with Brian* • Don't worry where the money is coming from, Brian will take care of that on his end Trustee Update • Dave -there could be a way to get grants if the foundation is set up (process for this is moving along) • Invested the cost of a Miracle Field $300,000 Woodman's - opening date labor day, will have mobile carts and handicap spaces Bowlero Event • Wait to discuss until more members are present • Marty will get pictures from the event from Steve Balinski at Rotary meeting tomorrow 5/24 BG Days • Issue from last year = several people calling the same vendor, we need to have 1 point person to contact the business owners = this information will also be added to the minutes • Sandwiches should be wrapped, not just held together with toothpicks -this was messy • Debbie will decide who will call which vendors • We should have enough boats, pasta bowls, and clamshells for this year • We will need napkins and silverware (can we get this from any restaurants) • The Village has an account with GFS- we should be able to get food from there • Parade -yes,just use the truck and throw candy — does anyone know any volunteers and/or walkers to give candy?volunteer hours for scouts? o Rick will get the application for the parade Fun and Food • Reviewed/revised registration form for Fun and Food • Last year at Fun and Food someone was selling soda (from one of the non-profits) and someone was selling cookies -this will NOT be allowed this year • Rick will ask the comfort dogs to come again • No goody bags will be given this year • Should we include a photo release so we can use the photos for marketing purposes? — Trustees will follow up on this Buddy Baseball • T-shirts for buddy baseball = we have a lot of t-shirts in many different colors (about 60 t-shirts) 0 9 S, 19 M, 15 L, 8 XL (in orange) -we could probably end up just needing to order 50 more shirts -we will check pricing o This is an election year, we cannot use politicians sponsorships on the backs of the shirts, this creates a conflict of interest for the village o Rick will check on the pricing for shirts Marketing Subcommittee Update • Put some brochures together so we can pass them out to inform others about the events we put on (Fun and Food, Bowling with Buddies, Buddy Baseball) • A CRD Facebook page or instagram account is NOT permitted by the village, all social media communications must go through communications@vbg.org-we can draft Approval of minutes from April 25, 2018: • Motion: Judy Samuels • Second: Jack Shapiro • All in favor Old business: • Jack- a lot of leftover food from Fun and Food last year, where can we donate this and have a place set up ahead of time?
