MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE COMMISSION FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES OF THE
VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 50 RAUPP BOULEVARD, BUFFALO GROVE,
ILLINOIS ON WEDNESDAY,AUGUST 23, 2017
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Board Member Richard Kahen

Introduction of Guests, if any
Chair Report
Rick reviewed a survey of fines other Villages apply for parking illegally in a disabled spot. Of the 12 Villages surveyed all
are at$250.
Commissioner Reports
Discussions on Buffalo Grove Days as follows:
Buddy Baseball-Game starts at 5:30pm. We expect 33 players and should have plenty of buddies. Lou Malnati's will
donate pizza. They will deliver the pizza. Gerri will pick up paper products from Lou Malnati's. Park district will provide
garbage bags. Ice is available from the Buffalo Grove Days committee. It would help if we bring serving utensils and pizza
cutters. Lexi will to to Target to pick up two large coolers with wheels. Mark will pick up 200 bottles of water from
Walgreens who are donating it.
Discussions followed on Buffalo Grove Days, parking availability, drivers for the Courtesy Shuttle, starting time, and length
of parade. Courtesy shuttles are to be picked up at the information booth. There will be a dedicated lane for the shuttle
bus. Communication link to Mobile com will be on a dedicated line for them. If anyone has questions they should call
Rick's cell phone. Sunday is the parade. Larry will drive his truck which will have banners promoting our committee. It is
at spot 43 Zone B.
Fun and Food Monday: Carnival will start at 9:30 am. Lunch will be at 11:30am.
Areas of responsibility: David will pick up cookies at McDonalds at 9:45am. Donna will pick up lettuce at TGI Friday at
10:00am. Dorfler's will deliver 500 three inch subs at 10:45am. Rick will pick up pasta from Continental. Mark will pick up
500 bottles of water from Walgreens. Paulette will pick up 500 bags of chips. Rick will have 500 wristbands for the
carnival.
Registration table-Marty, Lexi, David. Debbi will manage the food tent.
The following individuals donated cash for Fun & Food:
Carol Sente-$150, Sherri from Family Benefit Solutions-$100, Beth from Family Aligned-$250.
Everyone needs to stay after the event to assist in cleaning up.

New Business
Rick said the former BG Chief of Police who is active in the Rotary Club would like to work with our committee to put on an
event for the special needs community. Ideas were discussed and the concept of a bowling party seemed the most
popular. A plan will need to be put together.
Marty discussed a group formed in 2013 for disability awareness called Respect Ability. It was formed to help reshape
attitudes of society toward the diabled.
