2017-02-22 - Commission for Residents with Disabilities - Minutes Download Document 02/22/2017 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE COMMISSION FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 50 RAUPP BOULEVARD, BUFFALO GROVE, ILLINOIS ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2017 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Chairman Richard Kahen Approval of Minutes 1. January 25, 2017 minutes Motion to approve January 2017 minutes by commissioner Morton, second by commissioner Samuels with 3 changes. Introduction of Guests, if any Chairman Reports -Chairman Kahen thank you to Chairwoman of the Allstate Foundation for their generous donation of$500 to the CRD. -From the Caucus: The problems of accessibility at Mariano's was addressed. They will keep us apprised. Part of the problem is they have been acquired by Kroger. Carol Sente will tour the Mariano's in Vernon Hills on March 19th. -Legislation: 13 bills had to be passed before things would start getting done, 2 are already dead, did not make it out of committee, so poor chances. -Hope to be able to break out into sub-committees next meeting if turnout is good enough. -Talked to Brian Sheehan, head of Building Dept.to attend one of our meetings, possible in the next few months. Hope to go over the list and information we have on the parking lots. Buffalo Court, 301-307 W. Dundee; Country Court, 125 W. Dundee; Dun-Ell Plaza and the strip mall at 60-90 W. Dundee reassigned so they can be ready for next meeting. -April 25th is the Senior expo. -The Wendy's on route 22 could be a model on how well a parking lot for a store could be designed. -Discussion on a method on how to reward/award businesses in the community that either help the CRD in their mission or are advanced in their accessibility standards. They could be given a sticker to place in their windows, and they could be given publicity by the CRD having a small section in each newsletter to announce the awards. -First BG Days meeting will be March 14th. Trustees Reports -Trustee Stein reported that he will be giving a facsimile of the Allstate Foundation Grant to Chairman Kahen at the next Village Board meeting. -Trustee Ottenheimer- nothing to report. Subcommittee Reports Commissioner Reports -Commissioner Klassman will make arrangements with his players to move the Buddy Baseball game to Thursday 08/31 at 17:30hrs. Chairman Kahen has asked for assistance from Buffalo Grove Police for traffic and safety help as many cars will need to park on Aptakisic and this will be during rush hour. Commissioners, Buddies and players should try to get there by 16:30 hrs. Discussion on cost of the DJ. -Discussion again of a possible bowling outing at Bolero. Discussion on how to market it; who to market it to; i.e. only BG residents or open it up wider, etc. Do we need to use NWSRA for publicity or to cast a wider net? Perhaps BG residents would pay$5 per bowler and non-residents pay$25 for example. Tabled to be discussed further. Unfinished Business New Business The village is looking at the formation of a foundation; a 401(c)3 that could be used to raise money for all the groups, (commissions), that the Village has.
