COMMISSION FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Minutes, January, 25 2017 7:03 P.M.
EOC Conference Room, Buffalo Grove Village Hall
I. Call to Order. Meeting called to order by Chairman Kahen at 7:03 pm.

III. Approval of Minutes:
• Motion to approve December 2016 by Commissioner Morton, second by
Commissioner Sussman
IV. Chairman's Report.
• Chairman Kahen attended a follow up meeting with VM Bragg, President
Sussman, Paulette Greenburg, and representatives from the FD and Park District
regarding Buffalo Grove Days.
• Topics of discussion —Addition of a third shuttle cart, the carts are accountable for
44 man hours per cart, 3 carts equal 132 man hoours. Chairman Kahen stressed
that a third cart must be a joint venture as the CRD could not man carts for that
many hours. BG Days Committee says this would not be a problem.
• Wrist bands fro rides. Committee stated they are given a bunch each year. This
year more wristbands were needed then CRD was given because the carnival
insisted that everyone, including family members needed to have a wristband to
get on the rides.
• Install benches in the parking areas for persons waiting for the H/C shuttle.
• Marking on Carts Handicapped Shuttle or Courtesy, difference in how they are
used and sometimes abused.
• Add curbcuts or ramps for the carts and wheelchairs.
• God Reaction to the Handicapped toilets, although there was a problem with the
lock on the main one.
• Doing away with RSVP's for Monday's Fun and Food. System does not work and
there is nothing done with the information collected.
• Discussion regarding keeping Buddy Baseball on Sunday. Commissioner
Klassman and Mr. Stu Cohen will both be out of state. Vote taken to move the
game to Thursday because of this conflict.
• Chairman Kahen talked to a Comfort Dog group at the Fire Department Open
House and they may be willing to come to Fun and Food. Ronald McDonald is
booked.
Week of January 15t", Chairman Kahen attended a meeting with State Senator Julie
Morrison, and representatives Carol Sente and Elaine Nekritz. Senator Morrision has
formed a caucus to look and disability issues. Such as the distance from a H/C parking
space to the actual entrance as opposed to the curb cut. Discussed that Deerfield Twp
has a program that awards grants to individuals who need to remodel their homes to
become accessible.
All Commission terms are up in April of this year inform Chairman Kahen if you wish to
return or not.

April 25t" is the Senior expo.
V. Trustee Report
• Trustee Stein reported that The Allstate Foundation has again contributed $59 to the
CRD. The grant is for use by the by the CRD and cannot be allocated to other Village
Funds. This gives the CRD a bank of$1,000 plus the $700 budget frm the Village for
the Commission. Chairman Kahn asked the Commissioners to think of ways to use the
funds constructively.
VI. Commissioner Reports:
• Commissioner Morton reports there are no curb cuts at all at the Wendys on Route 22
(Half Day Road).
VII. Other Business:
• Resource Fair— No interest in doing it again. Instead talk to Park District about the
green fair and consider a free booth at the Farmer's Market during the summer.
• Trustee Stein;'s 14 year old son is working on his Eagle Scout Project by collecting
new toys for the pediatric patients at Advocate Lutheran.
