2018-08-06 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes VILLAGE OF BUFFALO 11::]t, a aupp B ,d raef�a haw ww :, IIA 60W ' 9 I ::,".47 85°:)-79N6 VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Regular Meeting August 6, 2018 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Rubin in the Trustee Conference Room of Village Hall. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Rubin, Commissioners, Johnson, Hartman and Dibbern. Commissioner Kulwin was absent. Also in attendance were Police Chief Casstevens, Fire Chief Baker, Deputy Police Chief Szos, Deputy Police Chief Eisenmenger, HR Director Malinowski, and Trustee Liaisons Smith and Ottenheimer. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A. Commissioner Hartman made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPC Regular Meeting of July 2, 2018, seconded by Commissioner Johnson. Commissioners Johnson, Dibbern and Rubin voted in favor of the motion. Commissioner Hartman abstained. The motion passed. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: A. Chairman Rubin noted that two lateral candidates Essig and Franzen will be sworn in after this meeting and before the Committee of the Whole meeting. B. Chairman Rubin noted that the Police Lieutenant assessment package was distributed. COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS: The Commissioners had no news to report. CHIEF AND TRUSTEE REPORTS: POLICE DEPARTMENT: A. Chief Casstevens noted that National Night Out will be held on August 8. B. Chief Casstevens reported that Lt Nugent will be graduating on Aug 17 from the NW Executive Management Program. C. Chief Casstevens noted that on Aug 25, the Buffalo Grove and Hoffman Estates Police Departments will host for Special Olympics the Sears Centre Truck Convoy event. D. Chief Casstevens noted that on Aug 30, Butter Burgers and Badges will be held at Culvers from 4pm-8pm benefitting Special Olympics. POLICE DEPARTMENT A. Chief Baker reported that one FF/PM has returned to full duty. B. Chief Baker reported that Kyle Ditthardt is doing well at the academy. C. Chief Baker presented positive probation recommendations for FF/PM Steadman and Kruse. Both have satisfactorily completed all probationary assignments. QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE: None SPECIAL BUSINESS: None Page 1 of 2 OLD BUSINESS: A. The new procedure regarding the approval of final employment for police officers and FF/PM was reviewed. Secretary Dibbern will send out a reminder to all Commissioners to review and make comment as soon as possible (within 48 hours of receipt of Psychological and Medical). Secretary Dibbern will text reminder to Commissioner Hartman. NEW BUSINESS: None ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Commissioner Hartman, seconded by Commissioner Johnson, to adjourn the meeting at 6:12 p.m. Commissioners Johnson, Hartman, Dibbern and Rubin voted in favor of the motion.
