MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 50 RAUPP
BOULEVARD, BUFFALO GROVE, ILLINOIS ON TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 2015
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Board Member Bruce Kahn
Approval of Minutes
1. 1176 : Minutes: Regular Meeting— May 2, 2015 (Steve Trilling)
Commissioner Rubin made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPC Regular
Meeting of May 2, 2015, seconded by Commissioner Johnson. Commissioners Karge,
Rubin, Johnson, Dibbern and Kahn voted in favor of the motion. The motion passed

2. 1177 : Minutes: Special Meeting— May 25, 2015 (Steve Trilling)
Commissioner Rubin made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPC Special
Meeting of May 25, 2015, seconded by Commissioner Karge. Commissioners Karge,
Rubin, Johnson, Dibbern and Kahn voted in favor of the motion. The motion passed.

Chairman's Report
Chairman Kahn reported that Amy Mielke will be graduating from the Academy on June 19.
Commissioners' Reports
Commissioner Johnson noted that the Cops on Top was very successful. Commissioner Johnson
reported that Officer Paul will be speaking at Flag Day at Veteran Park on June 14 at 11:30am.
Chiefs' Reports
FIRE DEPARTMENT
A. Acting Chief Baker reported that one FF/PM has returned to duty after a long medical absence.
B. Acting Chief Baker noted that they are in the process of doing two background checks for one
vacancy.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
A. Deputy Police Chief(DC) Bethge reported that Chief Casstevens and DC Bethge attended the
Police Week in Washington, DC.

B. DC Bethge reported that one officer will be retiring after 25 years of service on June 14, 2015 and
they will wait until the new list is complete before beginning the hiring process.
C. DC Bethge noted that the department will be sending one officer to work with the DEA. Four
candidates have applied for the position.
TRUSTEE REPORT
A. Trustee Trilling reported that Trustee Ottenheimer III has been added as a liaison to the Board of
Fire and Police Commission.

Old Business
Update on 2015 Police Officer testing process and review of upcoming
dates.
The Entry Level Police Officer Oral Interviews will take place the weekend of June 6-7, 2015.
New Business
Review and acceptance of Fire Lieutenant military preference points
requests.
Chairman Kahn reported that no requests for Military Preference Points were made for the Fire
Lieutenant process.
Review and acceptance of Fire Lieutenant final eligible register.
A motion was made by Commissioner Dibbern, seconded by Commissioner Karge, to approve
the 2015 Fire Lieutenant Final Eligibility Register. Commissioners Karge,
Discussion of adding a Police Lieutenant Promotional process to the
2015/2016 BFPC calendar.
The Police Lieutenant process requires a 6 month notification to candidates. DC Bethge will
bring a recommendation to the Commission for the July meeting.
