The meeting was called to order by Chairman Harriet Rubinstein at 7:10 P.M. II. Commission Members Present: Harriet Rubinstein, Banrde Factor,Diane Breslow, Gina Sheade, Haward Eise man,Marilyn Schar amd Yillage Liaison Phil Yersten. Guest, Debra Feldman was also present. 111. Approval of Mirrutes-Moved by Ms. Factor, seconded by Ms Sheade to approve the minutes. Minutes were approved IY. Correspondence-Chair Rubinstein reported on the materials she has been receiving on behalf of the Commission. Mr. Yersten submitted for reference the full list of narnes active in the Yernon Township seniors program. He had requested the list ecrrlier from Helen Yan Der Merkt at the Township O�ces. � Y. Resource Library Update -Ms Sheade reported that the library files were divided into approximately 20 separate topics, with spec�c items indexed and cataloged on approximately 200 index cards. Discussion followed as to how and when to make the library accessible. YI. Old Business-Areawide Meeting for Service Providers Ms Breslow reiterated the purpose of the proposed meeting, stating tluut it is intended as a means by which to begirr to identify, through dialogue open and mo�derated what services currerrtly exist for � seniors, and what programs are offered through community agencies It was acknowledged that Mr. Schimmel has begun to es7ablish a list of service providers that could be irivited Discussion followed in regard to what types of providers might be on such a list in addition to those identified at the last meeting. Those discussed included: local health care facilities, the Chcanber of Commerce, The Visiting Nurse Association, The Post O�ce, all pertinent Village Departments(especially Police and Fire), the Village's Commission for Residents With Disabilities, Wheeling Township, Yernon Township, local pharmacies, AARP, Buffalo Grove/Wheeling L/nited Way, Respite Care, Inc., and representatives from Claremont Nursing Home and the Park Place Senior Center. Additional ideas for an irrvite list could be derived from the circulation list of the I�illage of Arlington Heights Senior Citizen Commission. (attached) �" I • � �/ r�t 2 l ; It was reiterated that such a meeting would require a pairing down of such a list, and that this meeting was intended as an initial dialogue on services in Buffalo Gro►�and so would include major service providers cv�rd no members of the public. It was further established that such a meetir►g would take place as a breakfast meeti»g during the first or second Tuesday morning in June in the gym at the Alcott Center. Yll. New Business-Harriet described the services offered by the Park Place Senior Center. She indicated that she would get a directory for the Commission. Ms. Debra Feldman introduced herself as head of Debra Feldman &Associates, Ltd She indicated that she is interested in atterrding these meetings as she wishes to play an active role in the setup of senior programs in the Yillage. Her business address is 113 McHenry Road, Suite 101, Buffalo Grove. New reference materials received by Chair Rubinsten included a description of an Intergenerational communication progrrnn to be included as part of an upcoming senior expo, an irrput circulation list for the Village of Arlington Heights'senior citizens�eds F assessment survey, a poster promoting the 6th Annual Senior Celebration Duy at l Raru�hurst Shopping Center on Weainesday,Mcry 11 fram 9 am. -S p.m., and a brochure promoting another intergenerational program sponsored by the Resource Center for the Elderly and High School District 219.
