1994-09-22 - Committee on Aging - Minutes _ _ � � = MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE �__.-�` BUFFALO GROVE JOINT COMMISSION ON AG G Thursday, September 22, 7 PM �-�+4�� Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Harriet Rubenstein at 7:10 P.M. Members in attendance:Harriet Rubenstein, Gina Sheade, Marilyn Schar, Howard Eiseman, Village Trustee Charles Hendricks, Park District liaison Dan Schimmel, Yillage liaison Phillip Yersten. Correspondence-Ms. Rubenstein shared several pieces of correspondence with the Commission. These were then passed along to Gina for inclusion in the library. Resource library update-Ms. Sheade reported that collection and filing of materials into the resource library are ongoing. New Business- Transnortation Update Mr. Schimmel reported that Carolyn Swanson from our Commission and Deborah Holm from the Village's Commission for Residents A'ith Disabilities were working to establish a platform for us in regard to our October 17 "Summit"on transportation issues. (!� Questions arose pertaining to our current taxi program for seniors, specifically:Have we got statistics on use of the program? Is there a boundary limit? How does it work? Does the Village subsidize it? Is it a dial-a-ride system? Mr. Versten stated that he would either get the answers from Village staf�`'and report bacl� or provide for a report on these guestions at the summit meeting. Mr. Schimmel reported that Harriet Rubenstein had been following up on some transportation issues and was invited to attend a transportation meeting at Park Place in Arlington Heights on September 22. Ms. Rubenstein and Mr. Schimmel attended. Also in attendance were representatives from Wheeling, Maine, and Elk Grove Townships, village o�cials from Wheeling, Arlington Heights and several other communities. Mr. Schimmel reported that the meeting focused on a presentation made by Terrace Brannon, Deputy Chief Director of Planning and Administration for Pace. Mr. Brannon made an excellent presentation reviewing the capital and operations for Pace, Metra, the CTA and the RTA. He mentioned that the operating budget for Pace is$100,000,000 with about $S,000,000 currently spent on parallel services for individuals with disabilities. Pace expects that amount to climb to about$12,000,000 by 1996 in order to meet full compliance deadlines. Mr. Brannon reported at this transportation meeting that, although the budget was mapped out and ready for consideration, there is still time for them to consider other programs with communities. Though funding would be di�cult, he and Pace Planner Enid Spector appeared willing to assist in a search for funding. � Mr. Schimmel indicated that another "regional transit for seniors"meeting was scheduled at Park Place in Arlington Heights on the morning of October 19. . � � \.�/ Summit MeetinQ E Discussion followed in regard to the summit meeting between our commission, the Commission for Residents With Disabilities, the Transportation Commission, township officials from both Yernon and Wheeling, and others on our transportation concerns. It is scheduled for October 17,from 9 AM to 11 AM in the Council Chambers at Village Hall. Active Agers Coordinator Po ition Dan reported that Sue Huckstadt, Active Agers Coordinator, had resigned her position as coordinator for the Active Agers Program. The opening was advertised and a group of three finalists were selected. The selection process should be completed by October 1. Adjournment- There being no other business, the next meeting was scheduled for October 27, and the subsequent meeting was scheduled for 12/1. Meeting adjourned. �� .
