1996-04-25 - Committee on Aging - Minutes y...� � Buffalo Grove Joint Commission on Aging Minutes of April, 1996 The meeting was called to order by Chair Harriet Rubinstein at 7:05 PM. Members in Attendance: Harriet Rubinstein, Bonnie Factor,Karolyn Swanson, Laura Werner, Steven Perlis, Diane Breslow, Bob McNeely,Phil Versten and Dan Schimmel. Visitor(s) in Attendance: Ernie Karge, Buffalo Grove Rotary Club Senior Services Committee. Ernie did relay that the Rotary Club has a program which involves driving seniors for scheduled health care visits. Correspondence: Senior Celebration Day at Randhurst on May 1. School District#214 Community Paint A Thon Project which involves painting the homes of seniors where the annual income is less than $20,000 per year. Maureen Statland, director of the program, wrote that they have people for the project, but no place to paint. Illinois Intergenerational Initiative on Apri130th at Wheeling Township. A Salvation Army support group for women over 60 years of age meeting at Wheeling Township. The contact is Debbie McMullen Intergenerational Prom on May 4. School District #102 Walking Program at Tripp, Meridian and Pritchett Schools from 6:30 to 7:30 AM on weekdays. Cable Franchise Agreement: Phil Versten reported that the local cable operator is hiring seniors to act as "neighborhood representatives". These reps would have the updated schedules on upgrades and hopes that they could communicate progress of cable upgrades to their neighbors. When the information is available, Phil will provide it so it can be posted at Alcott. Directory of Senior Services: The following individuals volunteered to meet to begin work on the Directory: Karolyn, Diane, Steve, Laura, Harriet, and Dan. The meeting is scheduled for Apri125th, 7:00 PM at the Alcott Center. Survey Results: Phil reported that the final results of the survey were not quite done. He will send those results as soon as they are completed. Service Providers Meeting: Finai additions to the mailing list were made. The agenda was discussed. Final meeting plans will be made at our next regular meeting. Some of the topics mentioned included: � � �, Aging in Place Projecting Future Trends for Senior populations What are the Service Providers seeing in their operations How have they seen their#'s and their services change Fire Awareness: Phil mentioned that the Commission on Disabilities had finalized a project where their clientele have supplied information to the Fire Department. When a 911 call is made, the fire department has records on file on where the medical files are located in the home. The project could be expanded but requires us to develop qualifying criteria. A letter to Debbie Holm, Chair - of the Commission will be drafted. In other Village related information, Phil reported on the Setior Sign Up numbers for the Taxi Service. He also reported that the Village had passed a proclamation declaring April 1 as Senior Leiebration Day. This was part of the project at Randhurst mentioned earlier in ihe meeting. Park District Information: Dan supplied the Commission with the latest information on programs offered for seniors. Resource Library: Gina reported that she is wading through the many materials received. Help would be appreciated if anyone has time. There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:22 PM.
