1997-09-25 - Committee on Aging - Minutes �../ �' Buffalo Grove Joint Commission on Aging Meeting Summary September 25, 1997 Members in attendance:Harriet Rubinstein, Bonnie Factor, Karolyn Swanson, Steve Perlis Guests: Ernie Karge-Rotary Club The Meeting was called to order by Chairman Harriet Rubinstein at 7:OS pm. The Lake County Senior F.xpo and the Emergency Magnet Cards were added to the agenda under new business Service Providers Meeting-Dan reported that we did not combine with the Disabilities Commission because of space,public relations program in place,program planning and speaker expenses. Essentially, we were far to late to combine with their effort. The Commission asked if Debbie Holm, Chair of the Disabilities Commission, could be contacted to find out if their r,night be interest in jointly sponsoring this event or other events/services. Dan will invite her to a future meeting. � � New Business I A. Auto Theft Flier-Dan reported on a program spo»sored by the Illinois State Poiice on stickers that could be placed on your car that tell police that you normally do not ' drive your vehicle after a certain time. In effect, it gives the police more of a reason to j pull over a car late at night. � B. New Services- The Commission brain stormed on possible services that it could � pursue. It agreed that they would like to have an information table for seniors at BG ' Days Bingo Night. � C. Lake County Senior Expo-Harriet reported that attendance was lighter at this year's event. Probably due to rain. Several local politicians(state senators and representatives)were in attendance. D. Kitchen Magnets- The emergency card magnet was reintroduced to the Commission. Dan will check on the costs for printing the cards and for purchasing the vinyl eny�l.opes. ! Resource Library-No Update Park District Update - Dan reported that a new table tennis table had been purchased, at the request of a couple of seniors. Time was set up two days a week when it would be set up and availah'r.sor play. As of the Council Meeting, none of the seniors had used the unit. The September October Senior Newsletter was distributed. L � Dan reported on the Heallh and Fitness Center being planned by the Park District. The center was going up for review by the i�illage Board and its various committees in October. It is planned for construciion start in the spring with the opening set for Spring of 1999. Dan reported thart some sort of inembership fee structure would be set up for seniors but that it hadn't been finalized. T�illage Update-No report The meeting adjourned at 8:1 S pm.
